In the current cultural climate, meritocracy is dismissed as antiquated and unjust, a failed doctrine of the patriarchy. However, this foundational virtue of democracy shouldn’t be discarded so casually.

It is an equalizing approach based on the principle that individuals can advance and thrive on the basis of talent, effort, and achievement rather than on their social class.

It may not afford everyone wealth and prestige, but a properly functioning meritocracy will allow the greatest number of people to improve their position in life, regardless of objective factors like race, gender, or creed-

Meritocracy is dismissed and patriarchy blamed for everything by losers. These are the sorts who couldn't even get a participation trophy.

By definition, the push for equity is a race to the bottom. The least fruitful, productive or intelligent will set the standard, lest some of the useless slugs should feel excluded, left behind or (GASP!!! HORRORS!!!) that their “lived experience” is somehow judged less worthy.

If hierarchies established by merit necessarily become more exclusionary the higher one ascends, the corrective was always an injection of compassion into the mix—safety nets for the truly unfortunate, special attention for the remedial, clearing pathways of unjustified obstacles to improvement and success, opening doors needlessly closed.

It’s interesting that the standard complaint against the meritocracy has always been that it creates a small elite at the top who rule over the rest. Yet, in practice, this unhappy result has always been the product of the left. Rather than a hierarchy that evolves from natural laws, we end up with a blunt, two-tiered structure governed by elites who live by the maxim, “Rules for thee, but not for me,” i.e. Obama’s birthday bash.

if it is unjust for those who have more talent, choose to develop their talents, demonstrate merit in their pursuits of their own personally defined goals then I suggest we start with major league sports. Since White People are currently about 58% of the general population then ALL NCAA, professional semi-pro Basketball teams, Baseball teams, Football teams should be required to have at least 58% of their team members in the White demographic.- there should be no more than 14% Black players, no more than 7% Asian and ...so on.
NBA teams should be required to have no fewer than 3 White players on the floor at any given time during each game...jus say'n
