‘This is what they call liberation’: Ukrainians condemn Russians from ruins.

Weeks of attacks from Russian forces have left villages near the eastern Ukrainian city of Izyum in ruins as residents find themselves displaced from their homes – or trapped inside.

The villages have been under constant bombardment since the invasion started with some residents admitting they feared annihilation.

Little has been reported about the situation in Izyum itself but Mayor Valerii Marchenko said much of it was destroyed during intense fighting.

The mayor escaped from Izyum on March 13 – along with several other residents, on a bus convoy.

Mr Marchenko estimated some 20,000 people were still trapped in the city.

One account has it that when the Russians entered a town, the Ukrainians did nothing. Then the Russians started looting for provisions because they had none. It was at this point, according to said account, that the Ukrainians started fighting back.

In retrospect, it was a stroke of Genius by McArthur for commanding American troops to not even buy food from the Japanese during the occupation. The Americans were quickly seen as magnanimous victors who the Japanese could trust.
