Today we "celebrate" the 50th anniversary of the Watergate burglary. We know what followed: Woodward and Bernstein followed the money, unearthed disgusting evidence, which convinced senators from both sides that Nixon was a crook and liar, he was forced to resign.

What would happen today?
Of course, Nixon would get away with it. The crucial difference between 1972 and 2022 is not that there are two tribes now where there used to be a united country in 1972 (politicians in 1972 hated each other too), the new difference is that now each side has its own truth and reality. In 1972 even the staunchest supporters of Nixon could not deny the evidence, they knew that it was true what Woodward and Berntsein had found out. Both sides shared basically the same reality

Today, the Reps would say: Evidence ? it's all fake, the burglary itself was staged by the Democrats so that they could blame the POTUS.
Well... we don't have to imagine what would happen: it happens right in front of our eyes. January 6th? A bungled insurrection? A failed coup? NO! It was a peaceful rally, the mess was staged by the FBI to besmirch Trump's reputation and to cover up the Big Steal.; red MAGA heads shouting "Hang Pence!" ? They were actors payed by the Democrats... and so on...

If only we could do the same thing with 95% of Congress along with Sleepy Joe. But they'll get off scotfree.

Nixon's team used private resources to spy on Democrats.

Today, Democrats use government assets to attack Republicans. Worse than Watergate.

In Classical America, it was an unforgivable sin to weaponize the government to attack political foes. Voters were wise and they punished parties that did this. Today, Democrat voters went full Nazi and they consider using government resources to attack Republicans to be morally justified.

It's certain civil war.

Watergate was a coverup not so much by Republicans, but by the media. Anyone interested should read the transcripts of Liddy v. Dean to find out. That case reveals the media mudslinging that almost completely covered up the truth of the Watergate scandal. Its a public record. And Dean was found guilty of masterminding the Watergate break-in without Nixon's knowledge. Liddy sued Dean, because Dean tried to throw Liddy under the bus as responsible.

The reason that is important today, is that the media - which the New York Times proudly reported are 87% Democrat, found it could shape the narrative and convince the voter base of almost anything. So today the media is unapologetically doing so, as if it is their actual job. And I have spoken to "journalists" who actually feel it is their duty to steer people to believe as they do, because they are so sure they know what is true, and others don't.

Posts like this one prove that the public has almost no idea what happened as a matter of court finding and record of law, and believe the media narrative, or are convinced that wild speculation, like this post, are somehow useful.

Unfortunately, using wild speculation to defend Jan 6 by association, only hurts the cause of the truth - which pretty much everyone knows anyway. The Jan 6 mess was simply mischief by the Democrats that was too obvious because of cell phones, so the spinning is the attempt to rewrite the facts.
