The Russians proved in Afghanistan that their military is at best very average. But then again, the USA also did not do any netter.

There is a reason that Afghanistan is called "the graveyard of empires." Since Alexandros Megalos tried to invade India through Afghanistan, every effort by some imperial power to conquer or control the tribesmen there has led them to disaster.
