Have thoughts on the DNC vs RNC (so far)?

As someone who has watched all 5 nights of the political conferences, albeit at 2x speed, the themes and format felt noticeably different. The DNC's overall theme was "Uniting America (to defeat Trump)" and focused on the challenges that demographic subgroups (women, LGBT, blacks, Hispanics) face. The RNC theme is “Honoring the Great American Story” (land of promise, opportunity, heros, and greatness). What do you think about the format, effectiveness, and truthfulness of the conferences?

I have watched...

The differences are pronounced.

The Democrats agenda is all about the things they will take from you. There’s not a single plank in their platform that will improve anyone’s standard of living, make them freer, safer or happier. They have nothing to make a case for what they will do to improve our country.

The myth that they will work to improve the lives of those who are now excluded from the American Dream unravels when they are asked what they’ve accomplished in their cities. Government simply does this poorly, in the best of conditions. Starting with The Great Society, Democrats have only failure to show for their efforts.

Republicans have a solid slate of accomplishments to point to. No one with clear vision thinks a socialist agenda can rescue a faltering economy. Donald Trump has already done that, and his claim that he will again is compelling. There’s no reason to think otherwise, especially when you consider that he did it in the face of universal opposition and resistance. Everything Trump has done has improved the lives of working Americans. The Republican convention highlights this fact. The Democrats can only lie about it.

Edgework, Thank You, I could not have said it better, congrats!!!!!!!

I find it a blatant contradiction that the communist party/dems give lip service to "unifying language" when in fact they are all about identity politics. Identity politics is antithetical to the very concept of "unification". Another name for Identity Politics would be Tribalism.
Conversely the Repubes talk about unifying everyone as American Citizens - period. there is no talk about racial sexual religious identity. Either you're an American Citizen or you are not. Period.
I'll vote straight Republican thank you very much.

This election is NOT about Trump or Biden.
Democrats trust government with too much control over our lives.
A politician is a professional liar, Most are sociopaths.
I don’t believe that many of the lefts issues are actually in the federal governments Purview.
I want government as far away and as small as is humanly possible.
If democrats don’t have real issues to campaign on, they make them up. Sexuality, or any other personal choice, is not the business of the federal government.
Every time the government makes a law, they steal the rights of one group and give them to another.
A half truth is as bad as a lie.
The leftist media has been telling half the truth all the time.
This is called propaganda.

"Socialism is the hatred of the other guy who is having a better time in the world" The Bard of American Journalism - Henry L. Mencken
Nowhere on the Demo/socialist platform do you see classic patriotic America. Whenever they speak of Democracy it is not your democracy.
When the demo left goes into the suburbs and tells you to get out of your house that is communist infiltration at it's worse. Don't you think if by some miracle they got in, your family would be in danger?

The Democrat convention was a Biden family reality TV show, how ironic... it concentrated on his personal life and was almost terminal schmaltz.

The Republican convention concentrated on what Trump has achieved in his time as President, the promises made, and the promises delivered.

Overall, so far the Republican convention has been a more coherent and adult experience.
It has consisted almost entirely of speeches and has been so far, a much more rational and less emotional mess than the Democratic convention.
I did have a few problems with the way OTT speech by Kimberly Guilfoyle... certainly memorable, but in my opinion not for the right reasons. More speeches from people like Nikki Haley, Tim Scott and Trump JR, please.
Leave the hate and negativity to the Democrats and leave the OTT ranting at the door

6

What will a Biden/Harris administration do that a Trump/Pence administration won't allow to happen? We didn't vote ourselves into this mess and we're not going to vote our way out of it. Red v. Blue is the sideshow that keeps the proles occupied while the Usual Suspects continue looting the Treasury.

I haven't watched in entirety either, just parts of both. I do plan on watching all, but the "filler" stuff with music, people telling personal stories, and opinions is way to long and dragged out. If this was a live event it would serve a purpose, maybe. But, considering America is burning, citizens and buisness owners are being beat up and harassed, COVID saftey measures are still questionable and not consistently enforced, and the very real damage the divide in our country is doing... It's hard to "get into it" when all that is in the back of my mind.

I'd rather if both had been scrapped and all these celebrities and politicians grabbed a broom, took to the street, tore off their blue and red shirts, stfu, and actually DID something. I'm not as interested in the "magic" month of November as I am about the actual TODAY. You want to show unity? Don't divide the country wth hysteria that only your chosen king can mend. It doesn't work that way.

We were doing fine before 2020, better economically than before. Better crime rates than before. Despite the idiocy of Trumps tweets, he actually has done some real good and I think that he can pull us up economically again.

On a humanitarian stand point, Portland stands out as one of the most tragic. Wheeler, for all his mismanagement of the riots, was making changes and progress on how his city was policed. But, these tactics don't take into consideration riots and civil unrest. He needed to have worked with Trump just like all these other blue states should have to bring back peace.

People are easy manipulated by party blindness. There's a fierce loyalty to the point of overlooking it's parties faults. Biden's not president material. Democrats have to know this? I mean, they've been shielding him from questions and interviews while pressing Trump with "gotcha" questions.

Meanwhile we have a very real threat of another political party that's already been growing in ranks world wide. They don't need a national convention to rally. They are already in our education systems and streets. This mixed Marxist movement does not have loyalty to America whatsoever. They have one goal of dismantaling capitalism, abolishing our police, and it's done under the guise of a civil rights movement.

Maybe MSM and social media feels this movement can be controlled or that they stand with the Democratic party. Maybe they can. If they can, then they should be stopped now. But, I have a feeling they can't be. The fact that the violence was either downplayed or was placed as all Trumps fault at the DNC was irratating. I don't feel this is Trumps fault, but if it was who cares? Fix it! Democrats are basically saying they have no power until election. That's bs. Trump has said numerous times he will send troops but needs these states to get it done. Nothing. No single solid reasoning why that isn't necessary.

When I watch these conventions it's like I'm watching some parallel universe. Interesting pictures being framed by one point of view. Once again I find myself reading through multiple news sources to get a complete picture. I shouldn't have to do that. Blanket statements can't be made on either side. It's infuriating.

So, my ramblings are a lot longer than I intended. I do plan on watching the rest though. I dunno if anyone else feels the same way, but I'm a bit tired of all the talking without saying much at all.

The thing about the DNC is that no one said anything on how they were going to work for the betterment of Americans. It was full of emotional manipulation, TDS, and general hypocrisy. They mentioned nothing about the violent riots.

The RNC so far has covered more truths in one night-- soon to be two-- than the DNC in its entirety.

I have watched both. The first night of the RNC was a series of home runs (for me, anyway).

The patriotic themes are so refreshing after four years of America bashing.

5

The dims have been focused on identity politics and hatred for Trump for a long time, and they obviously haven’t learned anything...

The Democrats have no message or theme aside from "we hate Trump". That's not a theme. Much like the Republicans they have no real message because they've had power for years and done fuck all with it beside reward their friends. Not a single Democrat run city has eradicated or even put a dent into poverty or police corruption and that is by design. Republicans have no message and no backbone either.

My verdict: shit show.

Yes, I got that feeling about the DNC. Highlighting the anger.

go protest the streets of Seattle you double agent spy

@jpnese "Go protest the streets of Seattle you double agent spy" has such a lovely ring to it. It makes me sound quite exciting.

@ThomasinaPaine
It does doesn’t it? Why, you could be @Boris&Natasha!!!
Still, I think that was a fairly original swat jpnese took at you. I even understood the intent ... i think.

4

I commend you for going through both conferences. Not many have the fortitude.

From the RNC, the talk by the Cuban immigrant about brought me to tears. Good stuff.

I felt the same. He said some pretty sobering words.

Actually, he explained his story earlier ... a couple/few months ago ... the first time I thought it was more raw and powerful ... this time it was more polished and emotionally effective.

3

The format didn't surprise me much. The effectiveness depends on each Party's loyal members, I'm sure what the DNC had to say on matters didn't faze the other side and vice versa. As for truth goes, each side had their share of propaganda as per usual (such is modern day politics), with the RNC being more truthful in particular what has been going on with the protests and the overall ugly attitude towards America from some of those on the left. Night two of the RNC should be interesting.

@dd54 I didn't see anything influential either with the DNC's, but I'm sure alot of Biden supporters would disagree with me on that though...

I can’t ... and never have ... observed any of the conventions in anything close to their entirety.

It used to be that I could get a fairly accurate picture of events ... what was said ... from News Reports and Newspaper Accounts.
That, however, has changed radically over the last 12 years. Now, as far as I can tell, there Are No “News Reports” excepting FOX, OANN and, to some extent, Epoch Times but, even their coverage is “weighted” ... and Newspapers are simply a joke.
Truthfully, I tried watching some of the DNC convention (available in its entirety online) but I simply couldn’t Choke Down the amount of Pure BullShit they were shoveling.
So far I’ve been too busy to try to look at the RNC convention.
Thankfully there are many sources on the Net for viewing excerpts ... many of the excerpts I’ve seen from the RNC have been Very Good, Very Powerful.
Still, like being shoveled BS, I can’t stand sitting in an Echo Chamber overly long.
I really have NO Interest in ANYTHING Likely to come from the mouths of Biden or Harris or the rest of the “Democrats” either.
I AM Interested in hearing what Trump and Pence have to say and, perhaps some of the newer/younger Republicans as well.

As to listening to the Establishment Politicians ... Democrat or Republican ... Left or Right ... “Liberal” or “Conservative” ...
NO ... I’ve NO Interest in what they have to say AT ALL.
Its ALL the Same Crap.
They Open Their Mouths and LIE and Make False Promises and Say WHATEVER They Think I/You WANT to Hear.

Personally I Want to see these Politicians GONE.
I Hope WHOEVER Wins ... WHOEVER “Takes” Their Seats ... are WILLING to Work with Trump ...
I’d like to see AOC, Tlaib, Omar and all those other Moronic Freshman Representatives ELIMINATED ... maybe they could ALL take a Bus Off Some REALLY HIGH Bridge ...

We should have brought the TEA Party back to assist in vetting ALL the Damn Candidates.

2

I'd rather watch paint dry.

2

Didn't watch any thankfully, read the bare minimum reports and nothing grabbed my attention.

2

DNC production was a joke in terms of content and quality of presentation. RNC was better, but still very poor in my opinion. The interviews on the stage with Trump talking to normal people did not translate well. I am not sure why. Substance of RNC was good and DNC was empty.

Party politics is a plague on the land but it is what we must endure at this time. The political parties have made voting the most distasteful of citizen responsibilities. Yet I always vote but only in self-defense. I'm under no illusion that either PARTY is going to save the country, the nation...the Republic, if it even still lives, as such.

1

15 minutes would be sufficient to cover what they have to say. I hated church too🙂 Write it up and I may read it but I don't like being preached at.

We need a viable 3rd party. Even if the 3rd party lost - it would still help keep the other two on their toes (if it was very competitive). Take my view for example:

I agree with Trumps Nationalist agenda. But I agree with the Democrats on Sexuality, secularism, and more affordable healthcare (for Americans, not wasted on piss poor immigrants who are just gonna take their money back home)...

Plus, Trump is in bed with Israel. So fuck him

i watched a short bit the DNC honestly, i thought it was Kindergarten class childish and embarrassing but that is how the millenial generation of idiots in our society like it to be whether or not Trump wins , the Republican party must rebuild with youth i am worried, that the majority has been brainwashed to think one way , Anti Capitalism and Anti Freedoms. i try to be optimistic, but i see the wealth i created working 7 days a week for over 30 years so i can fund the raising of my family along with my wife, yes a wife, will be worthless within 20 years. i live in Canada we have our own Pariah in Office and our population centre is totally brainwashed ......

How about this ...
If you’ve watched enough of the conferences to have developed an opinion, did the Conference Change any of YOUR Opinions OR Thought Processes?

Personally, I saw, the DNC and the RNC and Trump.

I despise ... am “Anti” Establishment Politicians of Either Flavor/Party
I despise ... am “Anti” Whatever the Hell the Democrat Party has turned into.
I’m Interested ... am “Leaning Towards” the Direction of What the Republican Party seems to becoming (which is relatively new for me)
I am Completely and Without Reservation “Pro” Trump ... but I don’t consider him to actually be a “Party” Hack ... of either Party.
This (Pro Trump) was true of the Last Election as well.
This is the First Time in my life that I actually Advertise my Choice through signage and “boosterism”.

I was Very Happy to see, Promote and Support the TEA Party although it wasn’t a “Party” ... it simply vetted ... pointed out and promoted Politicians that were of a certain Mindset. While they weren’t perfect, they managed to begin a change in the Policy Leanings of the House ... most markedly, the Republicans.
I know they ran into a LOT of crap from the Obama Administration but ... I wish they had continued ... We could still use them today.
I think, if it weren’t for the TEA Party, there might not have been a President Trump.

I have to say, in My Mind, that Trump is the FIRST TEA Party President even though they’re not an actual “Party”.

You know how #BluesLivesMatter is low-key #BlackLivesDONTmatter? Well, the #Left's focus on every demographic that isn't #White is low-key #AntiWhite. While the #EstablishmentRight is appealing to values of #American unity and exceptionalism that only resonate with White #Normies, everyone else + cucked Whites are stampeding to the Left's holy crusade against #WhiteSupremacy, #WhitePrivilege, #WhiteNationlism, #WhiteIdentity, (pretty much anything and anyone White) with the faith and fervor of religious zealots.

Make no mistake, this paradigm can't last. The Right either needs to give up its attempt to unite Americans with appeals to patriotism that's in short supply outside the GOP and get mean OR resign itself to #RedGuards and #gulags because that's what's coming if the Left continues its holy war and the Right continues to tranquilize the very real fear it should be experiencing with pipe dreams of crushing the Left in a heartbeat if they really needed to.

This milquetoast #GOP will not stop a Left that is on the march and winning. If you think the Left isn't winning, then why are they burning down your cities while you sit on your ass in front of the TV and watch it all happen? If you could do something, you would do something, but if you're honest with yourself, you don't because you can't. You should be partying like its #1973 because everything you value, your life especially, is at risk of being destroyed if someone doesn't have the balls to go full #Pinochet on the Left before its too late.

I'd love to have watched both of the conventions however I have neither the time nor the opportunity as I don't have a tv. Oh well, I just have to watch the highlights. So far in that regard I've been more impressed by the RNC one.

Someday you may count not having a TV as one of the blessings of your life.

@Geofrank
Oh, I appreciate not having a TV. There really isn't anything on worth watching. And it really frees up my time.

@Brumalis I did go and buy a small TV back in 1989 because one morning on my way to breakfast I stopped to buy a newspaper and learned that the Berlin Wall had come down and I had missed seeing it on TV. But nothing of any importance ever showed up again until 9/11/2000, and how they manipulated that is probably the main motivator in my turning away permanently.
