Why not equality right now?

With the start of Black History month, famous antiracism author Ibram Kendi thinks big, saying, “Why can’t we be calling for immediate equality? Why can’t we be thinking that big?”. Well, why not?

A major source of inequality between groups is income. The following illustration shows a simply way to get instant income equality - just have Asian and White people donate their surplus income each year to a pool to be distributed to Hispanic and Black people to make up for the gaps in income.

If it is true that income inequality is due to systemic racism, then what is an easier way to eradicate it than to simply eradicate the income inequality? White people, for example, would only need to give up 13.9% of their income. Could this be considered a small price to pay for 400 years of injustice? Should Asians, once arguably an oppressed group, also participate? What's your thoughts?

Of course, the question was stated in terms of wokism, which is not the way to initially view the problem. The issue of income inequality in America is a serious problem, but it is primarily a problem of value, not of race, gender or inequality. Somehow our value system in this country has gone haywire. The video below was made in 2012. It shows the startling extent to which the problem manifests itself. It is far worse now. A country cannot survive this level of income inequality.

Thanks for that.
The very first study done in this was in Northern Italy in the 19th century by a mathematician call Pareto... who created the Pareto principle.
He found that 10% of the population owned 90% of the wealth and visa versa.

Today 1% owns 99% of the wealth and it is only going to get worse.

The last time things were this skewed... the guillotine was invented.

Either we fix this peacefully or expect the guillotines to return.

@dd54
I stand corrected. It is indeed 80-20.

The “wealth gap” certainly exists, but so what?

The experience of Elon Musk, or Jeff Bezos or many other billionaires was to capitalize on hard work, a brilliant vision and seemingly impossible goals, not just to make money, but to repeatedly risk it all on ideas others laughed at. They usually are at odds with their own boards and executives. They are rewarded — by consumers — to ridiculous levels.

The public seems to have no understanding of how a company like Microsoft or Apple benefits the economy, and tens of millions of people.

Billionaires are not the enemy, and obsession on the rich isn’t the answer. Change will only some with improved public policy on tax reform, stronger stock maker oversight, campaign finance reform, or whistleblower protection.

Progressives weeping over the wealth gap seek only to make people feel like victims.

@dd54 we always hear that 20% owned or controlled 80% of something.

It’s is equally true that in any work endeavour, 20% of the team does 80% of the work, and in investing or building, 20% of the players shoulder 80% of the risk.

@dd54 I agree. There are aspects of the system that need to be regulated or changed: predatory pricing, squeezing out competition, abuse of patents, especially in the drug industry...the list goes on.

My problem is when progressives extrapolate the abuse to capitalism in general. Free markets are not the problem.

My other issue is progressives’ demonization of billionaires, and their wilful ignorance on how their vision, innovation and investment risks of the super rich actually benefit a broad cross-section of the public.

Income "equality" really? based on what?
Everyone earning the same per hour perhaps?
So a Surgeon should get the same pay as a teacher who should get the same pay as a clerk or a cleaner etc, etc, etc....

Its a start!

N0DD Level 7 Feb 3, 2021

I think the point to "It's a start~" that is missing , is the fact that every time in our history this was the plan, we have the history to show us how it worked out, and it hasn't worked out,, it has only made things worse for the ones it is seemingly intended to help,, It is safe to say,, this communist conspiracy isn't a conspiracy at all, its now a huge factually proven theory on the game of social control that has been being played to us well before my birth by the 1%'s who control almost all of the worlds government's through their banks. The best way forward for everyone is to quite playing this terrible game with them,, just turn off the TV and go outside and actually love your fellow human beings. That's and continue to read as much as possible about our history, our real history.. much of it is all a lie fed into our Academia system to create a society of intellects who protect the lie from anyone discovering the real truth. anyways,, its a bad game, lying, never ends well.

It’s actually an end.

Should have posted a trigger warning with this one lol, was always going to drive the posters INSANE with rage.

famous asshole, Ibram Kendi ... suggests ignorant and simplistic bullshit ... and there are people stupid enough to read it ...

Some people are too stupid to live.

Income Equality? Nope. Not buying it. Rediculous notion.

The problem is that most individuals are brought up in their own group and learn the culture of that group. All groups think of themselves as the better group of all other groups because what they learn in those groups is the way everybody else in the world should be thinking and acting. It is just the right way to do things. When two very different cultural groups meet and start living in proximity and start competing for resources, each group thinks the other is taking the resources they rightly should have away from them and wars start. Under different conditions it is possible that Africans, Chinese or India could have developed technological advances and made Europeans slaves. Nobody is innocent but that is no excuse for holding other groups in slavery.

Check the Irish history!!!

@Serg97 What in Irish history discredits my proposal?

@Pand0ro Refer to my statement!!!

Socialism will be the death of America if we allow it to happen, Once that route is taken there will be no turning back

You could say the same sentence with Capitalism in place of Socialism. With the way Capitalism is working today, we are, as a world, committing suicide.

@Pand0ro Socialism has destroyed every economy it’s touched. Free markets created the robust system that funds western welfare states. No one gets rich without a ripple effect that enriches thousands of others.

@GeeMac Capitalism, the way it is used today is destroying the economy for most of the people in the world. It is causing a massive redistribution of wealth from 90% to the .05%. Not only that but the incessant exponential growth of consumers is destroying the planet's ability to recycle the waste and so it is also killing us. The major thing wrong with Capitalism is the lack of responsibility of most of the very wealthy to think long-term continuance of the the world.

And who determines the surplus income - BlackLivesMatter?

"just have Asian and White people donate their surplus income each year to a pool to be distributed to Hispanic and Black people to make up for the gaps in income."

It is impossible to have equal opportunity and equal outcomes. Every single individual is as unique as a snowflake which those who screech for equal outcomes seem to be. No two people have the same talents or abilities despite the decades of forced equity why fight human nature with immoral politics and social engineering? That’s all

I suppose it also takes hard work and dedication to have better outcomes, in terms of making money. But there are other outcomes too, such as friends, places where one has travelled, family happiness, and so on. There is always a trade off. Pierre Bordieu wrote about different types of capital. But only some types of capital can be taxed.

How about if rather than work all the time, I decided to spend quality time with my mountain bike? Nobody can tax that.

1

Hypothetically speaking, how about if I am a Spaniard and make more than $70k a year. I don't live in the US, but if I moved there tomorrow afternoon, and made possibly even more over there, could I just take an extra $20k or so off other people who earn more than the median earnings of Hispanics?

It sounds like a fantastic deal to me! Just by moving to the US, I would make a lot of extra untaxed money. 😉

What about if the US runs out of white people to tax because they leave the US and go abroad? Could the US tax them while abroad too? Oh, wait, that is possible as well.

1

If people say about white people evening payed all the have to do work hard

1

A working class mentality is that you work hard, learn from the mistakes you make and feel a pride that you were able to help yourself. A victim mentality is when you think everybody owes you for stuff that happened hundreds of years ago even though you don't deserve it or work for it. Anyone of any race or background has the right and ability to do their best to better themselves and more and more are going beyond just making it up to upper class levels. If you don't have the drive to go to the top (like myself-I'm happy where I am), you have the right to go up to where you want to be.

1

Socialism bad.

1

I think we should just all go back to our countries of origin and see who benefits the most.
Some societies built ships, had industrial capacity and medical care way beyond others.
You can’t just even the playing field with SJW bulldozer, we expect a proportionate effort in return and the rewards are already evident. Look around. Obama managed to become president.
Get off the entitlement train and earn the respect and income you want, that applies to everybody. Not all people are created equal so me giving away a portion of my income isn’t the solution because it just cause me to down tools and it breeds dependency and arrogance.

I seriously think Kendi is a satire/ parody account, like Titania or something. Between him and Robin Diangelo, I'm not sure who's screwier. I say this after having read "How to be an Antiracist", "White Fragility", and watched numerous lectures with both, as well as really tried to understand the ideology surrounding the theories.

So, Kendis big "equality" plan is race based. Not wealth based, which I don't see as a good solution either, but at least I could understand the argument. Both are called "equity" and both are not a sustainable means for long term success. Like all the other welfare programs, it will be abused, it doesn't encourage independence, rather nurtures a dependence on other people.

Don't get me wrong. I'd love to see some good old fashioned wealth distribution. Particularly with the big mouths like Oprah, Don Lemon, Kendi, and all the other celebrities that keep pushing the "it's all the white peoples fault" narrative, but I'm sane enough to realize that it doesn't do anyone any good in the end.

Cleaning up communities, greater attention to at risk schools, better conditions and vetting for foster homes, special needs programs, after school programs, lunch programs, greater attention to hospitals in poorer districts, community policing education and involvement, attention to mental illnesses, and so many other avenues can use a bit of extra funding as well as people to help. That's where I'd start.

Can't we rather stop seeing people as black or white or whatever and just see them as an individual.

0

What is surplus income?

0

It is up to each person to work and earn whatever their abilities and or education enable them to earn. It is not up to government to decide what anyone should or should not earn.

Why am I suddenly unable to reply to comments?

Black people are incompetent at handling the money the already have. Anyone who works in the hospitality industry will tell you that blacks regularly try to rent hotel rooms with debit cards and credit cards which decline for even trivial amounts, like a $50 hold for incidentals.

0

Separation not Reparation

0

Or you know, we could use public finance for public goods rather than solely asset inflation.

Your talking about modern money theory again?
Else I don’t understand what you mean?

In other words, hard working peoples taxes ....NO!

@w0tn0t Are the banks capitalized and corporate debt and mortgage securities purchased with your taxes? No. Not that we shouldn't increase taxes. But we should be financing all things of value, and that includes ordinary people's lives. The only reason we don't is because the precarity suppresses wages, boosts corporate profits, and allows the powerful to lord over their wives, employees, and neighbors.

@admin,

Why would you promote that "black history month" nonsense by posing this poll???

Lt-JW Level 8 Feb 2, 2021

I woke up to the USA Today article in my news feed and it got me thinking... so I put together the chart. I also believe that every day should be history day 🙂

@Admin
We all wake up every morning to the plague of Wokeism on MSM, the quotation though is how not to become party to it

@Lt-JW Yes, we must fight back against wokeism... here's a good start: [nypost.com]

@Admin

Deviating somewhat off topic, yet related to voting & misinformation by the lefy media.

NYPost tried their utmost to expose corruption e.g. Hunter Biden's laptop & contents - which was ignored by the lefty media - re-affirming the lefty MSM are biased (as if it wasn't blatantly obvious!) and claiming the reports were Russian misinformation.
As for USA Today, they're anti-Trump therefore are biased in their reporting, in my view
