Is there an antidote to third wave Feminism? Note: for simplicity, let's leave out Abortion in this discussion. As Feminism has racked up many mostly universally celebrated victories of equality for women (vote, anti-discrimination, birth control), it's arguable that it's third wave is left with witch hunts for "wage gaps" and "gender discrimination" while championing an anti-male agenda of "toxic masculinity", "patriarchy", and government-as-father. What positive non-Leftist message do you think could resonate with a 24 year old, college educated, liberal woman?
For background, here's a quick and slightly biased overview of Feminism :
Can someone enlighten me regarding the "right to use birth control". I live in the UK and am not familiar with US law. Was there a law passed allowing woman the right to use the Pill for example?
Absolutely there is a cure for anything if you believe you have somthing that needs a cure. I can only suggest meet with feminist from the past, research yourself not in groups then get together share idea's, view, etc with people from all sides of the issues, elderly people are books of knowledge wanting to be read.
I'm more like a comic book about a super hero nobody's heard of...like Foil Man!
If anyone is interested in feminists from the past this is a good documentary from last year. Its titled "feminists, what where they thinking?"
It's a nice look at the older generations determining what they wanted and laughing at themselfs where it makes sence to them. Not everything is nesasarly on point, I can't recal because I didn't pay the utmost attention but it's a nice look at the hindsight of the woman actually involved in the 60 and 70.
Somehow I doubt that there’s a “cure”.
In fact, while she makes passing mention that this “third” wave is similar to the “second” wave she actually seems to miss how true that is.
If Feminism is/was the struggle to have the same Legal Rights as everyone else (though they simply said; “Men” ) then it was and is great ... as long as they want the “Same Rights” (demanding “Equal Rights” is synonymous with “Special Rights” ).
In the 60’s ... the “Second Wave” ... Feminism plunged off the rails and dove into the “Dark Side” where it has remained ever since.
The narrator above says that the “Second Wave” was mostly about “Reproductive Rights” which I think was a minor component of the “Second Wave”.
Up until the 60’s it was often said that women had a “Place” in society and, that they should “KNOW Their Place”. This was absolutely true but usually misunderstood by Women ... especially Young Women.
A “Woman’s PLACE in Society”?
Women had No PLACE ... Women ARE “Society”.
That is not to say that they weren’t often taken advantage of, or treated poorly, or were even respected by everyone.
However, up until the 60’s women were the backbone and heart of society. They were the underlying foundation and structure upon which “society” was built.
In terms of gender, Females have ALWAYS been the more important of the Two Genders. While this might have largely gone unsaid, it remained nevertheless true. The proof of this was made plain thousands of times over thousands of years and it has been made plain in Every Species where Males and Females exist be they Animals or Plants.
In any of the “Higher Life Forms” If there are no ... or insufficient ... Females, there IS NO Future.
In Humans this is even more pronounced.
Women bore the children. More, women “raised” the children in every sense of the word. Women imparted knowledge, morals, a sense of community, an understanding of shared responsibility, an understanding of “right” and “wrong” and ... Women CREATED and Maintained “Society”. As people emerged from childhood and became young adults, they emerged as what their Mothers had formed them to be.
The “Feminists” of the 60’s mocked, castigated and shamed Young Women into believing that performing the duties ... assuming the role ... of Mother, of Housewife, of Woman ... was to lead an empty life, to be wasting of one’s time, to being stupid and dullard and of no account or importance. Feminists proclaimed that all those things were a WASTE and, in order to “Be Somebody” that women should get a JOB ... in order to be a “Productive Member of Society, they had to Leave Their Traditional Role and “Find” Theirselves by getting a JOB ... where they could “Gain an Identity” beyond that of their Family, their Husband, their Community.
I see this as one of the most despicable things EVER done to women AND it was done (largely) BY Women!
Many of today’s problems can easily and directly be traced back to the 60’s ... to women abandoning their children to Sesamee Street, to Day Care, to Learn and somehow Fend for Themselves. To women abandoning their Support of the Family-As-A-Unit by no longer supporting their husbands. To women abandoning their role in their Communities, in their Neighborhoods ... by abandoning their Work of Thousands of Years ... Society.
Feminism in general is a Loaded Gun that was “given” to Women BY Women with which to commit suicide.
Women, by their own hand have become “As Good As Men” by becoming “LESS Good As Women” and THAT is a Crime Against Humanity.
I'll be honest....didn't watch the video,I'm assuming it's like all the other feminist videos. They say they want equal rights(which they have),they're turning men into pansies. And if you're a Trump supporter, they call you names. They think we live in a rape culture(we don't),and then walk around in their underwear ,protesting.
These are not real feminists, they just hate men (real men),and won't let women in their matches if you support Trump. I don't know what they are.
FWIW, it's conservative leaning.
Dixie, I reckon today’s feminists are cowards. The domestic battles have been fought and won, and rightfully so, by the first feminists, but now the real battle is staring women in the face - the creeping, insidious threat of fundamental Islam. Now that’s a real battle and a truly frightening one, as the likes of Salmon Rushdie and Geert Wilders, to name a few, can attest. It would take particularly strong and brave women to stand up to that threat, and this current bunch of idiots who think they’ve got some claim to fame in the hall of women’s rights are simply hiding behind the petticoats of their forebears.
Maturity is the only possible cure, as in motherhood. Of course, with idiots like Alyssa Milano telling feminist acolytes to withhold sex from conservative leaning males, motherhood becomes an even more remote prospect with this psychotic, anti-feminine, feminist culture. Imo.
And might I add, aborting your babies is a big factor. Please no discussion, but think about it.
But if they withhold sex from us, how’re they going to trap us into paying for their children? Its not Sweden yet.
“I do not avoid women, Mandrake. I do deny them my essence.”
Time and experiences? I was an hardcore feminist in my teens. Then I grew up, saw the other side and concluded that I was brought up by a single mother afraid of men in general. I became an anti moderne feminist and especially: I changed the way I perceived women. I also concluded that many women forget many of their duties... Because there is more than rights alone. So I would say: giving everybody a proper education on gender. And give them time.
There’s four “inoculations” in my view:
Encourage free speech on campuses (Trump's on the right track here with his threat to withdraw funding from those unis that don’t promote it).
Don’t give oxygen to the extremists amongst these women. Even sharing memes of hysterical women wearing pussy hats on social media gives the impression that many women think along these lines when they simply don’t. (I raised the pussy hat-wearing women marches with some of my social worker colleagues a few months back at work: not one had heard of the marches, and I had to explain to them what a ‘pussy hat’ was). It’s bad enough that the left-leaning press indulge these screaming harridans by giving them column space in publications (the case in Aust, prob same in America).
Ask and be aware of what your daughters and granddaughters are being told at school/uni, and counteract it with opposing views.
As a woman state clearly and often to any other woman that you don’t consider yourself a feminist anymore (if you once did), and the reasons why. I do this regularly as my own solo counter-indoctrination plan.
It seems Feminism is like every other social movement that seeks to reach the elusive balance point that is deemed Justice or Fairness. It's own institutional momentum causes it to swing right past that sweet spot and carry on until the one time movement to free one group becomes the movement to demean and diminish the other. The Modern feminist is not on a quest for liberation, freedom or equality of opportunity or outcomes. The Modern Feminist is on a quest of oppression, repression and punishment. Maleness is toxic, men are predators as such they must forfeit Due Process. Accusal equals guilt. Off with his head....next case.
The only way to handle oppressors is to oppose and confront them. They have no right to deny any rights to anyone. You must look them in the eye and call them out as hateful and vile liars. Afforded every right but choosing to make up false charges and imaginary offenses to project on men they do not know for no reason other than that mans being male. If they have a direct charge against some one....bring the charge, Do not wait until you think you can take away his reputation and opportunities with your charges outside the legal remedies afforded equally to all citizens.
When they make up a term call it out. Tell them that is some perception you have invented for projection of your own warped self image. Eye to eye. Term for term. Call out their lies then label them as simple sexist opportunists. Tearing down to get ahead. Taking away from those too weak to fend off their feckless blather!
We just don't know how to achieve change. It's not just feminists. When motivation is being ramped up in the beginning, NOBODY stops and plans what this will look like at various stages. What does a victory look like? A pretty large number of women seem to be saying, 'hey gals, we won. Let's start living with it now.'. But, some can't let go. They don't know who they are outside of the struggle. So, they invent new ground to conquer--even when that ground squashes the charter and begins to encroach on the fair rights of others. People just don't know how to stop.
A better approach to a movement would be to slow down long enough to plan for victory. MLK Jr. sort of did that. He described what his vision was. It wasn't much like what we have today, but it probably could be. If the left with all of its activism would start studying MLK Jr. from a perspective of hope, they wouldn't be doing things the way they do them. I don't think MLK Jr. would have allowed white elites to appropriate their movement, for starters--especially since none of them have any understanding of social change or MLK Jrs. vision. It's like another language to them. Rich white elite activists are extraordinarily selfish. They don't realize it. They've fooled themselves into believing they care, but all you have to do to see through that junk is ask yourself why the movement is being led by a bunch of rich white elites in the first place. That's not being an ally, ace! Hahahahaha. Rich white elite leftists think they can do the movement better people of color. Both frustrating and comical. It's like watching clowns in a circus--like whent hose 15 clowns stuff themselves into a vw bug. Tragic comedy.
Third wave feminism is the natural evolution after the second wave, because it became clear that despite the progress that was made in regards to opportunities, there were still discrepancies in the outcome.
Then people get very upset about the idea that some people might be given an advantage based on their gender and insist this is immoral, while conveniently forgetting other advantages like married parents, intelligence, wealth... they will of course attempt to defend these advantages, but it amounts to a mere defence of the status quo.
And people who are privileged by the status quo are unlikely to seek reform for obvious reasons.
So how to appeal to college aged women of liberal leaning? Attempt to understand their position rather than belittle them or ignore their complaints.
Concerning United States law, women have exactly the same rights as men, so there is no inequality.
Concerning the marketplace, women have the same ability to start a business, own property, and buy and sell goods.
All women and men have the ability to handle grievances within a company concerning pay or treatment. If a contract on one of those issues has been violated, they can take the company to court. If not, they can attempt to settle the issues or move on to a better company.
I do not see any legitimate purpose for a so-called feminist movement or for a person to call herself a feminist. Frankly, it just comes across as whining, which, ironically, is counterproductive to any alleged goals.
Women have MORE rights than men. Men pay more for driver insurance. Suppose we discovered Italian-Americans were worse drivers on average, and companies charged them more. Would we allow that?
Men have more chance of dying at every age, yet pay the same pension and retirement money which women collect more of. But law allows men to be charged more for life insurance, same reason. Having a Y chromosome is a preexisting condition. Not one that Obamacare cares about.
The antidote would be to create and to fund (seriously) a program whereby all women who claim to be oppressed and mal-treated here in USA, - denied basic rights by virtue of their "womanhood" are offered a free all expenses paid 3 month stay in any country where Islam is the dominant culture. Then publicize this program openly - broadly. Set up a kiosk at every leftist rally and convention and see how many people sign up for their "free vacation abroad".
I'm ready to participate in the funding of such event. But something tells me that, even after the 3 months, they will find a way to blame everything on withe males from occident.
I would advise her to do some research on libertarianism. Most libertarians have no qualms with women making their own choices in life, and they don't have the far-left take on life just a more balanced one.
