I say Merry Christmas and I think the only reason people feel defensive over hearing happy holidays is because while it is easy to feel at ease saying Merry Christmas now it was previously under attack. I think it is fine to say whichever you please but just like Peterson's stance on gender pronouns, you aren't going to tell me what to say!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
Merry Christmas.
Not that Iβm particularly religious, not that I think βMerryβ is particularly the right word.
To me, Christmas is based on the Christian Celebration of the birth of Jesus but, in many ways, it is more a real life version of the Nativity Scene...
People, Friends, Family from all over, from completely diverse lifestyles and backgrounds, for a moment every year, put aside their quarrels, βsheath their swordsβ, leave go their animosity and gather together in near harmony.
Even as a child ... and through the years ... I thought that the best Christmas Trees were the ones that displayed mostly personal ornaments ... made by children who were now often adults ... one of my favorites remains an oaktag Santa colored in crayon with bits of cotton batting glued on as fur trim and beard with movable arms and legs that my 80+ Mom made in elementary school ... my other favorites are all the ones presented solemnly over the years as personal treasures to people βfor your treeβ ... as a child we took turns selecting our favorite ornaments and placing them βjust soβ on the tree sometimes explaining why amid quiet banter as others awaited their turn and quietly hoped that another didnβt choose that particular ornament.
These days Christmas Trees come out of boxes and lights are strung on them and tinsel is no longer used because it would look lousy next year and the room explodes in presents as each tries to outdo the other with stuff grabbed up in a rush at one huge store or another ... or ordered online ... or ...
Thereβs less of it now, but thereβs still a solid echo of the harmony remaining ...
The one thing I really miss is the Christmas Tree sitting outside in the snow after the festivities are over decorated in stale doughnuts, cookies, bits of bread and stuff βfor the birds and little creaturesβ with its popcorn garland and bits of tinsel fluttering about in the wind.
Iβm not really sure what stopped that tradition ... artificial trees or interested bears ...
Merry Christmas! May Yours be Harmonious and Bright.
Well let's see. Is that a Holiday tree? Or is it a Season tree? I've never heard anyone call it anything other than a Christmas tree.
So Merry Christmas!
By the way, to those who like Happy "Holidays" - you do realize that's the same as "Holy Days", don't you? And Christmas is definitely a Holy Day. So Happy Holy Days to you, too.
@Admin Season's greetings to you, and thank you for creating this platform, much appreciated.
I am definitely a Merry Christmas person. Though in my culture the greeting is "Mir Bozi Hristos se RodI" which translated from Serbian is "God's peace! The Christ is born" and the reply is "Vajistinos se Rodi" meaning "Indeed He is born". To me the greeting Happy Holidays is rather bland and lacks meaning and flavor like having just cooked pasta is stil past but without any sauce ther's nothing to define it.
Merry Christmas!
Plan on listening to some good music and cooking a little, before heading over to the inlaws house for the feast of expectations, hopefully sprinkled with some semblance of gratitude, lol
Wishing peace, blessings and goodwill to all of you and thanks for enriching my world view!
It's always Merry Christmas from me, with an additional festive greeting tacked on if I'm aware the person I'm greeting has a different culture ie Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah! We're all different and I'll honour my own and others culture where possible. What I won't do is erase mine to defer to theirs.
Christmas is what I grew up with. Itβs part of my symbol set. I no longer take it literally, and havenβt been inside a church as a believer since 1968, but while i may be lapsed, Iβll never be a secular Jew, or a non-practicing Muslim, or a lapsed Catholic. For better or worse, these are the cards I was dealt and the response is still hard wired. A choir singing Christmas carols still has the potential to open a door onto higher realms, and I feel no internal contradiction over it.
So MERRY FUCKING CHRISTMAS everyone.
Im just a "person" person..Happy days
Sunday, Monday, happy days!
Tuesday, Wednesday, happy days!
Thursday, Friday, happy days!
Saturday, spendin' all week with yooooouuuu!
These days are ooooooouuuuuurrrrrs!
Those happy days!
Iβm all in on Merry Christmas, it has been so all my life and now for my family, for a while it was lip service I guess, but Iβve swung back, so Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year, I know Iβve posted this after Christmas Day, so a little late but with the same feeling !
In answer to your (the admin's) question in this thread, myself being a firm believer in Jesus Christ, I am a Merry Christmas person. I do however maintain the staunch belief that despite my beliefs in Him, I choose a more socially acceptable and appropriate position by aknowledging:
'Happy Holidays'
to others, because we are not merely a Christian nation. The fact of the matter is, that we are a multi-cultural nation which consists of immigrants who have worked and busted their asses off to make our nation the clever system which we now have. So...
...I feel it's entirely appropriate to issue a standard Happy Holidays response to others, in respect of those who may not be believers in Jesus. There is the other part of this equation where Christmas is considered by many, myself included, as being a Pagan holiday. Ya know... where some fat man comes sneaking in through some chimney, to steal ya cookies, and unload gifts which were made by elves. So...
...thats where I stand.
