I don't worry about Israel being defeated and being kicked out of the land (Amos 9:15). But there will be a close call in Obadiah 1:7 ("prevailed against thee" ). And this is when I believe Jeremiah 49:38 kicks in. God will intervene through a 3rd party.
"And I will set My throne in Elam (pre-Persian name of Iran), and will destroy from thence (without leaving Elam) the king and the princes, saith the LORD."
The Shi'a and the Sunni hate each other's guts. I suspect Iran will not allow the Arabs to get all the glory in taking out Israel and will "crash their party," so to speak. The "kings and the princes" taken out, they prepare another volley for Israel - from Damascus - as is their habit of doing. In the spirit of self-preservation, Israel takes Damascus out, and thus fulfilling the Damascus prophecy. Israel gets to "possess their possessions" (Obadiah 1:17-21). The hook of oil wealth that later hooks the Magogian jaws (Ezek 38:4)?

I suspect the Persians will try to overwhelm Israel's Iron Dome defenses with massive missile salvos. In doing so, I think they will destroy everything on the Temple Mount. This would clear the way for a Third Temple. But as the saying goes, man proposes God disposes...

Yes, that's not just a possibility but a high probability. And it will be by geographical location proxy, as usual. Scripture is not clear who destroys Damascus "in an hour," but it's not difficult to see this in relation to its being a launch pad.

Possible. But there is Obadiah. Nobody seems to check out what he wrote. I believe the Obadiah war is pre-70th week. Because the surrounding nations are no longer being mentioned in Ezekiel 38 and 39.
