Maajid Nawaz wrote a book with Sam Harris "Islam and the Future of Tolerance: A Dialogue" (2015). Maajid Nawaz is a former Islamist turned counter-extremism activist. As a teenager, British-born Maajid Nawaz was recruited to a global Islamist party whose goal is to unite all Muslim countries into one caliphate ruled by Islamic law. He spent more than a decade there, rising into its leadership, until he was sentenced to four years in an Egyptian prison for belonging to the group. But he left prison feeling that the Islamist party was hijacking Islam for political purposes and that its aims were dangerously similar to the aims of fascism. While remaining a Muslim, he was no longer an Islamist.

His goal now is to help Muslims in the West engage in their current political frameworks, while encouraging non-Western Muslims to work for a democratic culture that values peace and women’s rights. In the UK, he co-founded Quilliam, a think-tank that challenge the narratives of Islamist extremists. Nawaz spent years meeting with leaders like George Bush, Tony Blair, and Justin Trudeau attempting to help western powers understand the vital importance of living up to their ideals when dealing with Islamist extremists. Nawaz stopped working with nation state powers because they were always looking for ways, especially in emergency situations, to increase their power. "Emergencies," notes Nawaz, "are always used by the state for power grabs." Until January 2022, was the host at an LBC radio show.

Nawas has good experience with conspiracies, as he himself was part of a conspiracy to build an Islamic caliphate. He is a great critical thinker and debater, his talks are worth listening to.
