Does anyone else think that the concept of sexual objectification given the benefit of the doubt is a misguided way of shaming unwanted sexual attention or is it just me?

Let me explain. By definition both men and women objectify their potential partner but the way women do it is seen as non damaging. Take for example Jason Momoa. I've heard women can say things about him that would make a pornstar blush but no matter how many inappropriate comments, inappropriate touching, or downright lusting for him no one would say Jason Momoa was being objectified. Counter this when a women is presented in a similar manner. I believe it's because unwanted sexual attention could lead to...not so pleasant non consensual things if acted upon. So the concept of objectification is a way of shaming unwanted sexual attention before it goes further without shaming sexual attention itself by giving it different term. We kinda need it....you know...to form sexual relationships. I've been told their fun and beneficial for mental and physical health and overall quality of life but I wouldn't know. But throw in the possiblity of harm for unwanted sexual attention and you can see why objectification is seen as such a threat. Unless you Jason Momoa then you just going to have to take it.

i see what you're saying. i think its ok to objectify people, but not like thats the ONLY thing they are good for. thats the difference.

Rarely is someone accused of sexual objectification by implying that someone is only good for sex. I've never seen it. They are usually classified as misogynists not sexual objectification.

Western Culture (USA, Canada, Australia, Western Europe and Great Britain) is gynocentric. This means women can say or do almost anything they please with little or no negative consequence.

Woman can wear whatever clothing she likes at any given moment - masculine looking clothes, sexually revealing clothes, frilly flowerly things or slacks and work boots with nothing but a bra on top and it's all good. Men - not so much.
Women can become welders, steelworkers, truck drivers, and they can become military war fighters...all good. Men are generally expected to take dangerous work assignments - careers...but when a man becomes a nurse, a social worker, a teacher he is generally thought to be less masculine - a sissy - a beta - a cuck.

A woman can be a sexually aggressive as she likes to be - and no man can react or respond with his natural impulse - A look, a whistle, a comment from an undesirable man can land him in jail.
We're supposed to intuitively know that when a woman is showing / displaying her sexy self that she has a particular man or kind of man or boy that she wants to attract.

Sexually suggestive and aggressive behavior in a woman is acceptable behavior - not so much for men. Men go to jail for that sort of behavior.

As a pretty masc presenting gay women I find this comment to... be a mischaracterisation imo.

Women have spent the last 100+ years trying to dismantle their stereotypes and I still get bullshit for doing anything vaguely GNC.
But If you ask me Its about time that "mens rigy5s activists" actually did the same thing with attitudes towards men. Because the beta this, ,betathat rubbish is definstely perpetuated the most by other men.
Same with the sissy stuff as well.

I think... unwanted sexual advances on anyone arent taken seriously but straight men do seem to be laughed off more. Almost like they are feeling pressured to act that way.
At the same toke theres also massive issues with rape and sexual assult against women

It needs to change in all cases.

While difficult, not impossible, men WANT sexual attention and generally can control the outcomes thereof so, there is no threat, only positive reinforcement of their 'sexuality'. Obviously the same doesn't apply to women and therefore the threat creates a need to minimize the 'unwantedness'.

I don't think there is a way to change that dynamic so.....

Agreed. I’d add, though, that the sexual objectification of men — especially younger men — is increasing and can be just as damaging in many respects: compulsive workouts, six packs, steroids, and an increasing market for men’s “beauty” products. Even eating disorders are increasing among males. In some respects as women free themselves, men are going backwards.
