Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.Happiness is an emotion, not a state of awareness. Yes, awareness of certain things (political climate, social issues, etc.) is certainly depressing...
But is it "false happiness" when a person feels joy in an achievement, receiving a great gift from a friend, seeing the beauty in nature, eating a delicious meal, etc.? Of course not!
Furthermore, I would argue that awareness itself, in certain things, will bring happiness too.

@Anders Great point! The things I listed were more short-term happiness concepts. That's smart to point out that there are reliable long-term happiness concepts as well.
I think a pay raise and a swanky new house would definitely add to my short-term happiness. I would be just just fine with that ... in addition to (not instead of!) the concepts that contribute to my long-term happiness! 
@Anders You know, it's my honest opinion that money CAN buy happiness, to an extent. Speaking as someone who has lived poor for a good number of years, now living comfortably, there are some necessities of life that you just need money to have; housing, transportation, food, healthcare, clothing, hygiene - all of those things do have dollar amounts attached.
Your options for "good relationships with other people/animals," "a sense of vital engagement," and "sense of connection to something larger than oneself" can be limited by lack of money too. But you're right that it's not a direct MONEY = HAPPY equation.
another way of saying "ignorance is bliss" - agree or disagree!
Nevertheless, it is the nature of men to perpetually pursue more, better, bigger...than what he already has and certainly more, better, bigger than what "the other guy" might have.
The moment a man attains that thing he wanted more than anything else his eye is turned by yet something else.
