the people have been electing corrupt and incompetent mayors and other city/county officials for more than 100 years. They have the gov't they deserve. Let the stew in their own pot.

Are you familiar with Carl Sandburgs epic poem "Chicago" ? Here it is.
I'm not sure if Sandburg was born in Chicago but I know he is beloved by that city and is regarded as one of the great men of arts and letters. Here's the link:

yes and that poem is very highly revered to Chicagoeons. I believe it is displayed at various locations around Chicago. Plaques, statues...
So as I said - they are for the most part quite content to have the reputation of corruptness, vile, violent, wicked - they wear it with pride so I say fuck-em.
Don't really care all that much about the crime and violence in that town.
One could make a good case for saying the the children by the age of 10 have lost their innocence already...
