When people bring up the hardships of growing up in the foster care system as an argument for abortion this frustrates me for 2 reasons; 1. It basically tells all the orphans now that death would be better for them but 2. It is such a misguided argument since in order for it to be valid in the way they are suggesting every child in foster care would have to be there due to being a result of an unwanted pregnancy. It is my understanding most people seeking to adopt actually want infants but there is a shortage of them because of abortion and that is why many adopt overseas. “Forced” pregnancies are not the sole reason for children in foster care. Many come from loving homes but because of unforeseen events the child is without their parent. Parental death being a huge one. Sometimes it may be because even though the parent loves the child even that situation is too bad and foster care is better. Another thing could be parental incarceration. The parent may be providing well for the child and live the child but the parent(s) is arrested and jailed. And many times these children are older and sadly, like I said, older children aren’t what most adoptee parents want. The other issue that has made adoption numbers worse if course is also is ivf and parents wanting chuldren that are genetically theirs.
