"Unlike many of the other new frameworks of belief, social justice culture provides a comprehensive vision of right and wrong, and of our place in the world, and as it becomes more institutionalized, it’s becoming the most likely contender for a new civil religion." Quoted from above article.

This was an interesting perspective and read. The title alone, "What the right gets wrong", was telling. It already is assuming only right wingers question the way social justice activists operate.

Reading further, there were a few well explained terms like moral, dignity, and honor thinking. If I were to classify myself based on the examples given, I'd probably classify myself "dignity". I'm not one to judge someone based on their beliefs. If I disagree with someone beliefs, I don't associate with them. If someone is hurting another I'll take legal action.

"Unlike many of the other new frameworks of belief, social justice culture provides a comprehensive vision of right and wrong" This is a pretty lofty position to have for any political group. While I agree there are moral sins like murder, abuse, and any others that cause harm, there are beliefs certain groups disagree on that don't easily fit into the black and white of right and wrong.

This is how I view government should handle conflicting beliefs. Groups of any belief are free to conduct themselves as long as they are not harming anyone else. Any harm against individuals may be taken up in a court of law. When it comes to how our country functions, there should not be select groups based on race or ideology that should be given special treatment based on historical wrongs. Additionally, our education system should operate based on fact rather than select ideologies and history while excluding others.

"Our place in the world". I'm unsure when the idea of individualism morphed into collective thinking. I find it extremely baffling that any group would claim to believe so heartedly that they have all the answers. We are, and have been, in a constant need for growth as well as be the leaders and innovators of our time. We have an extensive history of individuals of all race, creed, sex, or political ideals that have molded our country from all over the world. These individuals varied wildly on their personal beliefs. Every generation begins with the challenge of being better than the last. Many embrace this challenge whole heartedly. No one comes into this world "knowing their place" before they've lived.

"as it becomes more institutionalized, it’s becoming the most likely contender for a new civil religion." There lies the trouble. "Institutionalized" Just what are indoctranating our youth and citizens to? Why are we teaching how individuals should feel and not allowing them to draw their own conclusions based on facts and history?

As far as "civil religion", I think that sounds more like two conflicting terms rather than a logical label. Having a diverse civilization can't function under just one religion. There's a difference between having conflicting beliefs and a functioning society. The rules I agree with are the ones that allow freedom of belief and any issues are to be handled legally.

I'm all for social justice. I just disagree with the allowance of riots, demonization of whites and police, destruction of historical and religious monuments, praise of KPop stans trolling blue lives matter hashtags, defending social media for suspending "wrong think" accounts, degrading Blacks by either saying they all are either incapable of being successful without help or a "Coon" for "wrong think", and the list goes on.

I would offer alternatives as the article asked for, but at this point I'm at a loss. Their actions make zero sense to me. Their beliefs are confusing. Their end goal is no where in sight. I hate to be narrow minded, but I'm seriously stunned that these types of actions can be seen as positive change. Any other options don't seem to meet them even half way.

Honestly what a load of hypocritical blinded one eyed bs.
No Peace says it all...
its not about justice... nor peace they tell us and show us that.

"When moral visions clash, it’s common for people to assume their opponents have bad motives rather than different perspectives." I think the counter to this opinion is "But as victim status becomes more attractive and confers benefits and support, then others are going to take advantage of that, too. Social psychologists talk about competitive victimhood." [spiked-online.com]

Victimhood is something that should be trained out of every child. Taking agency away from a human, both in the judgement of their actions as well as in the promotion of a better future is a preventable tragedy.

If you want them to fail, tell them they’re a victim. The best prison is our own mind. If you love them, tell them they’re responsible for themselves.

Pretty hard to make that case when the scientific/intellectual class denies the possibility of freewill. It will take a revolution in thought or some evidence against determinism to solve the problem.

@wolfhnd - whether they believe in free will or believe that we act as if we have free will makes little difference when forwarding the optimum case opposing victimhood.

Good article. Interesting point they made with Trump. He does frequently speak of how he is unfairly treated as well as makes a point to talk very highly of himself on all manner of subjects. I'm not saying he does or doesn't have a victim mentality, but it's a good point.

@saramarylop3z - A victim is someone who has no control over their situation. Trump calling attention to the biased News system (effectively a proxy for the opposition party) is a call for discernment. Perhaps some do see it as victimhood, but I'd make a distinction between recognizing a well documented bias and accepting that there is an undefined, institutional bias that can't be addressed except with self flagellation.

@RobBlair

Well definition do matter, and the devil is in the details.

My position would be that the universe is sufficiently determinist that freewill is limited. It exists because it is a necessary component for social order. In relationship to the natural world it is a matter of degree not kind but we are concerned with the highly abstract version which is a social construct only possible because of cultural transmission.

Establishing that freewill is real is essential to stopping the madness of the cult of victimhood and it's wellspring quasi Marxism hiding behind the pseudo sophistication of post modernism. Break critical theory and intersectionality and you can reestablish some degree of orderly social interaction.

@RobBlair I absolutely agree that there is both a huge amount of bias in the news that needs to be changed as well as addressed. They don't even try to hide the fact that they are biased. CNN and others lean left and FOX and others lean right. Considering that news these days has evolved to more sensationalized entertainment rather than actual news doesn't help. I'm also completely against demonizing any President to the degree that I've seen with Obama and Trump.

It really makes you not trust the news when the headlines are more important than the actual content which is lacking. Although I have seen some very well done editorial commentator pieces from Don Lemon (Before he went full woke and started doubling down on blm agenda), and Tucker Carlson, to name a couple.

I thought the way Trump calls attention to these issues can be perceived as playing victim. I don't know a great deal about any actions he's taken to adress the bias besides calling them Lamestream and Fake news. The way I perceive it is that he's angry about any news source that doesn't speak highly of him. I'm not about to say the way I precieve something means it's true. But, I don't see how it helps either.
