Here’s how you know she is lying. She laughs. Big, deep, hearty laughs. I’d love to play poker with her, but keep her away from anything resembling real power.
No one is going to mention this bizarre response to Colbert’s totally reasonable question, just like no one is mentioning the former Joe Biden’s current mental state. But just because you ignore the elephant in the room, it’s still going nowhere, and the reality of it seeps into the mass consciousness and becomes part of the unspoken narrative that skids along beneath the media hype.

The last few decades have been a time of uncovering the rocks of institutions to see the ugly reality beneath. Politics, I think, should be seen in the same light and if we are reluctant to presume that people in power are abusing it, at least be conscious enough to suspect it.
