Leftists are always shocked to discover what happens when their feel-good ideas are placed in the real world.

Take Minneapolis, for example...

Am I meme-ing correctly?

No. A good meme is grounded in fact. Slander and unfounded smears simply expose you as an intellectual thug. And an ineffectual one at that.

Better luck next time.

@Edgework oh so what you are saying is perhaps a controversial meme meant to illicit a reaction, either an ovation from your allies or outrage from your opponents, isn't able to capture the subtle nuances of a wide array of people's opinions regarding a common ideology... and instead paints with a broad brush and faulty information to get said response without presenting an actual argument backed up with verifiable data regarding the meme's position?

@JacksonNought
You conflate conservatives and the predominantly Democratic KKK. Nice try with that. You also spout the left’s one and only talking point, which is that any deviation from their ideology is tantamount to racism. You also cast all conservatives as evangelical Christians. So you’ve revealed nothing useful about your intended target, but much about the narrowness of your own vision.

On the other hand, socialism sports an unblemished century and a half track record of poverty, misery, destruction and mass murder in the service of its implementation. So there’s that.

A meme is meant to crystallize a truth into an immediately apprehendable image. I’ve no doubt you think yous does that. But as your standard bearer daid in an unintentional flash of coherence, you “...choose truth over facts.”

Ann Coulter calls this sandbox politics. “You’re not nice. I don’t like you. You’re just a big meanie.”

Intellectual sloth.

There are a number of socialist countries that are doing just fine. You do realise that, right?
Sometimes, the Right have a fantasy/nightmarish idea of what socialism is in its worst form and believe all socialism is death and destruction. The Right also ignore socialist policies introduced by their own right wing candidates.
This could be down to the right wing propaganda working on the individual and help reinforce their personal narrative.
The reality is different.
A list of Some Socialist countries.
Denmark
Finland
Netherlands
Canada
Sweden
Norway
Ireland
New Zealand
Belgium
The U.K sometimes
Not all are like China.

The degree to which they are not like China and Cuba is the degree to which they embrace free market principles. As for the Scandinavian countries our “new” socialists love to hold up as examples: they’re not socialist.

If Bernie got his way and made us like Sweden, here are the reforms he would have to initiate:

  1. More free trade
  2. A more deregulated product market
  3. No Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac
  4. The abolition of occupational licensing and minimum wage laws
  5. The abolition of taxes on property, gifts, and inheritance
  6. Even after the recent tax cut, America would still have to slightly reduce its corporate tax
  7. America would need to reform Social Security from defined benefits to defined contributions and introduce private accounts
  8. The US would also need to adopt a comprehensive school voucher system where private schools get the same per‐pupil funding as public ones.

Free market economics turned Sweden into one of the richest countries on the planet. Hence, the accumulated wealth that their experiment with socialism in the 70s and early 80s began redistributing. It almost destroyed the country. As Margaret Thatcher said, “The problem with socialists is that they eventually run out of other people’s money.” They have since returned to a market economy, although with far lower growth than they previously enjoyed. They have high taxes and comprehensive welfare, which only a market economy could finance.

@Edgework I agree. Not all Socialism is the same as some Right Wingers like to believe and there are socialist policies in America today. My country has no income tax but everything is expensive.
Thatcher is a hated figure in the U.K
She shut down the entire coal mining industry and made 147,000 colliers unemployed overnight. Some communities in Britain have never recovered.
The conservative and labour parties in the U.K are difficult to separate on policy with both copying each others manifestos.
If one serious illness can bankrupt a person with medical bills, it would be nice to have a safety net for those that have contributed to society. The trickle down effect tried by Thatcher and Reagan failed.
There's no reason to believe it would work with another attempt.
Things don't change at a fast pace. I for one wouldn't mind paying a small tax to help finance a safety net for those who deserve it. I believe i'm not alone.

@maxmaccc
You certainly don’t come off as a frothing star the mouth Marxist; neither do I identify with frothing at the mouth Right Wingers, as you call them. I confess to knowing too little of the U.K.’s internal politics to have an informed opinion of Thatcher’s record. Over here she was viewed, along with Reagan and Pope John-Paul, as part of the triumvirate that undermined the Soviet Union had brought it down; she’s revered or despised mostly on the basis of that.

I think what unites all flavors of the left can be summed up simply: the inequities in society need to be corrected; it is the proper role of government to see that this happens; and “the greater good,” however that is defined, overrides any notion of individual rights.

Those on the right tend to trust government to fix potholes, defend the borders and keep the riff-riff at bay, and not much else. Given that America’s founding documents, and the system of government they created, were written by men with a rabid mistrust of government, it could be said that such mistrust is in our DNA. Our Bill of Rights is, actually, no such thing. Instead, it is a set of proscriptions on government authority. “Congress shall make no law...” “The right of the people shall not be abridged....” That sort of thing. The rights of the individual, and property ownership (physical and intellectual) are codified in the Constitution.

It’s not the priorities of the left that those on this side of the aisle find objectionable. (Well, not all of them.) It’s the idea that a state apparatus is needed to implement them. I think Jordan Peterson’s lecture on hierarchies was particularly astute in pointing out that neither right nor left have a claim on ultimate truth, that each is needed to balance deficiencies of the other.

Unfortunately, I don’t see anyone listening to him.

@Edgework I was working between the U.S and the U.K back in the 80's(i miss Concord). There was almost total anarchy in the U.K during Thatchers early reign with the closing down of the entire mining industry overnight(cheap Polish imported coal), 140,000 unemployed, communities with 70% unemployment and the introduction of what was known as the "Poll Tax" which changed how properties were taxed so that a mansion would have the same tax rate as a terraced house, great if your loaded, not so great for working class and it's all about class in the U.K.
Jordan Peterson talks a lot of sense and cuts through political correctness with sabrelike precision. I particularly enjoyed his talk on using pronouns and his refusal to use language imposed on society by the do gooders and guardians of the" i'm offended machine".
The balance needed is the grey area where compromise exists. Unfortunately, many are unwilling to shift position and work it out.
I believe that an injection of youth into the political scene might be a step in the right direction.
Hopefully the U.S will recover from this period of uncertainty intact.

There is no society in this world that is perfect. There is no nirvana..no utopia except what you can create within yourself and your home. I don't believe the young will even experience normal joys..they are too busy to go out and buy a new car or look for their first home in person, it's Carvana and Zillow. Busy doing what?? They are looking for what they cheat themselves of..personal joys and their accomplishments.
