@Black5 Double that and you might be getting close. Know numbers look at something like this:
- The Soviet revolution most likely killed 5 million people according to what data we can get (this is the conservative number).
- Stalin killed over 60 million that is known and it is highly suspected that the number is over 100 million to include his entire time as the ruler of the USSR and the defacto head of WarsawPact.
- Mao's death numbers start at somewhere around 60 million and are believed to be closer to 120 million.
- The there is Po Pot who killed over 10million of his people
- Castro's deathrate is still unknown but suspected to be over 5 million
Then there is the other socialist and communist governments around the world and their death tolls plus the death caused by communist groups in countries where they never became the governments. So the death toll is above 200 million but the actual number is unknown.
@Black5 that's an outdated figure, and mainly counts Russia, China, Cambodia.
It would be impossible to calculate, but if you count the deaths in the former eastern block in Europe, all the Asian and African deaths, add in the Cuban, Venezuelan region...the death total would easily double, triple...who knows. It definitely appears like communist ideology and its implementation has caused the biggest dent to the earth's population in history (by number and percentage).
