Australians overwhelmingly put 'pricing above emissions': Panahi
Once people actually have to pay - out of their own pocket - for things like offsetting carbon emissions or greener energy, their "sentiments" on the issue of climate change alter "very quickly", says Sky News host Rita Panahi.
Ms Panahi said it is misleading to ask Australians if they want more green sources of energy as it comes down to "whether you want it enough that you're going to put your hand in your pocket and pay for it".
“Once they’ve actually got to pay for it out of their own pocket, their sentiments change very quickly,” she told Sky News host Chris Smith.
“Overwhelmingly, Australians still put pricing above emissions. Cheap, reliable energy is what they want.”

I see solar roof panels becoming pretty common (even among corporate/industrial buildings) but they are still fairly expensive to buy and install.
I see a ton of energy waste by the government/corporate/industrial sector - they get special deals with set rates, while the average person is paying at a massive mark up by the kWh.

I hope this will include the true costs of batteries, all of the energy it takes to mine and strip rare earth metals and all of the replacement batteries and true recycling fees for old/dead batteries. No tax payer subsidies to hide the consumer costs of green electric. The same goes for fossil fuel subsidies. Once the true costs are out there, the market will decide.

For the average consumer in Australia, you can take any sort of battery to the tip for recycling without cost. Probably gets sent to a developing nation by the shipping container load.
@RitBorg I know it's an old article, but this is still the case in many 3rd world countries where e-waste, batteries etc are processed:
