Triggering a Second Civil War?
Is the Political Left purposely trying to trigger a second Civil War? Whether this is consciously happening or not, a lot of the same variables taking place now were present back in 1860. And as philosopher George Santayana famously said, "Those who do not know the past are condemned to repeat it. This is a little walk down memory lane.

In the 1860 election, the south chose a strategy that guaranteed they would lose.
Lose they did, and secession followed immediately.
The democratic party nominated Douglas, a northerner.
The southern democrats split from the party and nominated their own candidate,
Breckinridge. Southern votes got split between 3 candidates: Breckinridge, Douglass, and
Bell, whereas Lincoln got all northern electoral votes except 3.

In 1860 there were many democrats who favored secession but not war. Then
democrats attacked Fort Sumpter, triggering 10000 northerners to volunteer for
the Union Army, and war was on.
I would say that today, democrat offenses are way beyond Fort Sumpter.
They have taken a stance that gives republicans no choice but to secede.
Direct violence against republicans, and the passage of Intolerable Acts.
The national guard used to be under the command of state governors, and the
2007 National Defense Authorization Act transferred power to the president.
The allegiance of the national guard in red states needs to be secured.

More like Civil Collapse, and I don't think it's intentional so much as predictable. Dave Rubin calls himself a Classic Liberal and I think he's right. Pelosi, et al., are a perversion of those ideals. Democratic altruism faded post-Kennedy, todays left wing is spawning a tyrannical utopianism. If the Collapse comes, let's hope the Military the Left despises so much survives enough to protect us from China. As for intra-continental struggle, take a look at a congressional electoral map, those blue areas don't have much hope and I'd bet most of them couldn't clean a fish even if they knew where to find one.

Or perhaps people on the Left just want programs to make society a better and less oppressive place, and want equal freedom for all people. And the Right is so eager to start murdering "different" people, they are creaming their pants and hoping a civil starts so they can start running and gunning.

I think they are going for less of a civil-war and more of a two-year old temper-tantrum disruption of throwing a hissing fit until we give in. (Since we’re not supposed to be ‘violent’ and they change what violence is to suit their needs).

Well its a combo or cultural decay, radicalization of many individuals on top of technocratic, globalist communist takeover turning USA into USSSA. I guess it really is the new Abnormal.

@JacksonNought We've been seeing one side in their kid-tantrum for four years.
I don't see a recognizable overt, armies/militias fighting in the field, civil war being in the next two years. I would think it would turn into a repressive police state fighting actual terrorists and insurgents within a decade though. I'm not making any value judgments on either side when I say that -- both are fully capable of filling or being pushed into either role. Even good people can do awful things.
@RitBorg I remember having some discussions with online friends over something called "Transnational Progressivism" back in 2003. One of them had a girlfriend in school who perplexed him greatly from these wild-eyed political notions she had adopted, but he hadn't been able to put a name to it until then. This stuff has been simmering under the surface at the universities for at least twenty years. The people who are now in the middles of their careers in media and communications were indoctrinated on this stuff then.
@Augur2748 I believe it. It was somewhat rare in my undergrad years (2000-2003) but it was very common in graduate school (2008). It could be due to switching from Math to Education but I think it gained traction as universities continued to hire only socialists/communists whenever possible.
it's frustrating. I've been worried about a steady move towards irreconcilable differences between large swaths of our population for a long time now. I suppose it's hard not to take it seriously now. Finally. But perhaps too late.

I personally don't expect civil war in the way it happened first time, but civil conflict, information and culture war is already here. Probably it will get worse and worse, until either one side completely takes over or there is push back to the point of forcing a compromise of some kind.
@Krunoslav I agree, not the way it went the first time. More chaos. More disorganization. More random acts of violence, fewer armies in the field. Entirely possible the national military will find a way to stay out of it, and perhaps the national guards too. We have very few state-sized areas overwhelmingly one side or the other.
I agree. I think there is still time to “right” the ship but only if we have some fundamentally agreed upon reality. That would require increased competition in media (or actions against the monopoly technology and media companies).
