Even though District of Columbia is not a state, the district government also has certain state-level responsibilities, making some of the mayor's duties analogous to those of United States governors. The current mayor of the District of Columbia is Muriel Bowser, a Democrat, who has served in the role since January 2, 2015.

@MichelleD The point is; Trump is not a fan of this woman to begin with, and I don’t think he is trying or needs to make brownie points with this traitor. He could have very well placed a couple hundred troops if it’s required by law, and then it’s expected to be a virtual inauguration. A lockdown of the city and 25k troops ( last count reported ) is a bit extreme. The war in Afghanistan didn’t have that many troops! Something is up.

@FEWI He ordered the NG upon the request of the mayor lady. I'm not sure what happened between the 6K originally assigned and the 21+K NG plus legit military troops rolling in right now. I was going to look into it today but I've been a bit distracted. There are rumors that there are some fenced areas that are pointing inward, towards the capital, while others clearly show barbed wire as expected. I'm just watching so many things happen around the world, it make conspiracy theories look plausible. How many entire governments around the world do you think collapsed this week? It's curious. BTW, thanks for being nice about my periodic stupidity.

@farmerguy56 It's not the D.C. National Guard... they're being deployed from all around the country.
Apparently the Pentagon has authority to provide security for "special national events", like an inauguration. I don't know the source of that authority, should be buried somewhere in Title 32 of the US Code. e.g., Paragraph 904, section (a), says that they "may support or execute homeland defense activities performed by the National Guard..."
They probably need the State Governors to sign-off as well.

The Guard (except for the D.C. Guard) cannot be deployed in "active" status by Trump as the Commander in Chief, without first being called-up on federal Orders under Title 10 of the U.S. Code.
And, I don't believe that has happened.

The scope of the operation is probably a matter of how badly the Congresspeople have been pissing themselves since their false-flag "riot" got out of control.
Why? Do you think a bunch of weekend-warriors who just want to go home and sleep in a real bed are going to take over the Capitol building?
Then what are they going to do with it after that...?

Most of them aren't even armed. It's all part of the show. Congress begged for more troops and razor-wire because it's going to be televised globally... so they can go on pretending, wailing, and crying about the "dangerous and radical" horde of grandparents and churchgoers threatening to climb the gates with pitchforks and torches at any moment!!
