Metropolis, a 1927 film, paints a fairly accurate warning on where we are headed as a society.
What it doesn't explore is the corporatism that enables are technocratic corporate overlords to gain so much power. Like most films it is a simplified version of reality that is notable for it's art more than it's accuracy. That said it is the decay of the aesthetic sense that highlights the horror we are witnessing unfold. There is little joy or beauty in a "Metropolis". Although the youth culture we have imposed longs for the easy but unstable fast lifestyle of the jungle it's sensuality is shallow and immature. From brutalized architecture to vacuous entertainment it has committed spiritual suicide. In some ways we are living the zombie apocalypse of right think. The vulgarity, paranoia, shallowness, and incompetence of the political class is on full display in Washington today.
The lack of joy will eventually cause the cult of wokeness to implode. The question is how long?
