On a day a self-congratulatory media billed as one of healing and unity, the message they presented sounded more like division and revenge.
Eugene Robinson of the Washington Post was typical. Commenting on the first female VP, he lamented that America, unlike other nations, has “taken so long” to put a woman in power. Wait. Did he miss the power of Speaker Pelosi and the massive press given the Squad during the past four years? What about the power wielded for so long by Hilary Clinton, who was rejected, not by GOP misogynists, but by her very own woke Democratic colleagues, who instead backed Barack Obama — a man — in 2007. Clinton’s party backstabbed her again in 2015, grudgingly giving her the nomination after splitting towards Socialist Bernie Sanders, another man.
Robinson further stoked division today by raising the ugly spectre of the “replacement” theory, so often associated with right-wing hatred, but constantly trotted out by the left:
The America that was, which was a whiter America, an America that did not give...space to women, to minority groups. The America that is becoming, is a more diverse more multicultural America.
Does that sound like the language of healing?
