Excellent point. I fully agree, as yo may have noticed from a few of my posts. Dead people and non-citizens should not be voting. As a matter of fact I am of the opinion that 1st generation immigrants should not have the vote even after attaining citizenship. Of course, this is what Democrats have claimed is suppressing the vote. The founders never established a universal democracy. Democracy is simply a means for the majority of like mind to make decisions. Minorities and women were not given the vote. I believe every citizen in a democracy should have the privilege of earning a vote but certain criteria need to be met. It is a privilege and not a right. People voting themselves largesse out of the public coffers is a road to perfidy. But, as you say, probably fully 80% of voters today believe that to be the purpose of government. The strength of the nation and the other 20% suffer for it as the country is "fundamentally transformed". I never miss an opportunity to shell Obama for his part in selling out America. I consider this his third term by proxy.

And they are right, as well, in that all privileges have qualifying criteria, and that's exactly what the criteria are for: to suppress the uncontrolled exercise of the privilege.
That's why they insist on pretending it's somehow a right.
I think the only criteria that makes sense right now, would be to afford the privilege to anybody who has paid (net) taxes since the last election.
I use the pizza analogy, as a fundamental understanding of "rights" in civilized society: if you're not chipping in for the pizza, you don't get to pick the toppings.
Two caveats: old people can vote, and anybody who draws a public paycheck can't... conflict of interest.

That's where monopolies come from: teaming up with Government.
They effectively write their own laws, staple a check to it, and hand it to committee... who often don't even bother to read it; getting it passed is already a done-deal at that point anyway, and they've got the next fundraiser to dress for.
