I consider a person's pronouns to be an example of free speech. Call yourself, express yourself, however you like.

But when your expression of free speech requires me to respond in a certain way - or face punitive action - then it's no longer simply free speech, is it?

As for AOC, I am reminded of what one of her apologists said on the topic, that it's only important that she felt in fear for her life, irrespective of the details. To which I can only respond, AOC has every right to express fear of whatever she wishes - as an expression of free speech - but when you use that fear to justify saying fellow representatives tried to have her murdered and should be expelled from Congress, then it's no longer simply free speech, is it?

I suspect that it's the punitive part of not "properly responding" to these examples of free speech that conservatives are railing against, not the free speech itself.

eh? they broke into the capitol building and murdered a policeman then trampled each other to death.

AOC is so loathed she has tonnes of death threats. The right is obsessed with her.

It's very funny how they and you downplay this after breaking into the capitol building and murdering a cop.

@bastion

It's very funny how they and you downplay this after breaking into the capitol building and murdering a cop.

Whereas I find very unfortunate that most of your arguments seem to be both selective in memory and emotional in nature, because it means that instead of having an honest conversation, you're hoping that by accusing me of being a bad actor spreading lies, that I'll slink off with my tail between my legs.

It's also rather unfortunate that you choose to try to deflect instead of taking the argument head on. I was speaking of the nature of free speech and how it is no longer free speech when people are compelled to act in a certain way in response of it. I used the political Left's tolerance of AOC's fabricated story about being under attack as justification for expelling elected officials as an example of when the line gets crossed. But instead of discussing free speech with me, you want to instead deflect into talking about the Capitol Riots and how anyone who doubts AOC is a bad person trying to downplay their badness.

So, I'll respond, but I'm also walking away from this conversation once again convinced that no matter how many times I try to have an honest discussion with you, you choose the coward's way out. I would think at some point that would cease being entertaining, but then, I'm not you.

eh? they broke into the capitol building and murdered a policeman then trampled each other to death.

From most accounts, the Capitol police opened the doors and let them in. For all the rhetoric being heaped on the riot, this point has never been in dispute, leaving more than one call for investigating the Capitol police as being complicit in enabling the riot.

The death of a police officer is unacceptable and should not be tolerated, I agree. It's a shame that you do not appear to feel the same about police officers injured or killed as the result of Antifa/BLM actions. You well know by now that I have repeatedly denounced the non-peaceful actions from the Capitol riots, but there's the selective memory portion of your argument rearing its head again.

As for trampling each other to death, first I'm hearing of it from any source. But if the goal was indeed to do violence - as you claim - then it would appear to be just desserts. If it wasn't, then it was an avoidable tragedy.

AOC is so loathed she has tonnes of death threats. The right is obsessed with her.

Just as we know that the political Left was - and continues to be - obsessed with Donald Trump, for whom I can only assume received just as many death threats, if not more. Does that mean that the empathetic Left would be okay with Trump making up a story about being attacked as pretext to expel Nancy Pelosi from Congress?

I didn't think so. But I'm sure you'll think of some nuance requiring extreme mental gymnastics to justify why it's okay for AOC to do so.

It's very funny how they and you downplay this after breaking into the capitol building and murdering a cop.

You'll have to tell me what it is I'm supposedly downplaying, given that I was talking about free speech, only to have you change the subject.

If you mean that I'm downplaying AOC being attacked in her office, well, I suppose that's a sign of my character, that I have a maddening tendency to call things what they are.

For example, when someone invents a tale out of whole cloth how they were under attack by protesters - who never entered her building and didn't enter any building for a full hour AFTER she'd left the premises - and then, when that story is shot full of holes, reverts to a tale about how a Capitol police officer - who by her account was angry and full of hate for her "in his eyes" - came by to evacuate her from the building out of an overabundance of caution due to a suspicious package - and then resorts to saying that the whole thing made her feel the same emotions she felt when she was sexually assaulted - then I cannot help but call that an emotionally manipulative lie in order to secure a desired outcome. That outcome being at worst, silencing critics, or at best, expelling fellow representatives for "orchestrating the violence" - and by her own words, "attempted murder" - against her.

Now, you are perfectly free to stand in solidarity with AOC over this incident, and I'm perfectly free to think you a fool for doing so. THAT is free speech.

Words must have meaning. Science must include all data sets especially the sets that challenge the hypothesis in order to be science. Without these two things everything is just feelings, and feelings betray. They are subjective and you can’t make policy from subjective feelings. Because there are no standards. This I believe is by design. Nothing is illegal or everything is illegal based on whose in charge and their perceived slight

What for the way for it ? That society accepted science that does not exist and continues to for it. We have known for 20 years that dark matter theory does not work. That wimps do not exist without super symmetry. And for super symmetry to exist you need the laws of matter and force to be the same. Which has failed abysmally ! So on a grand scale ? They beat you in your psychology because you could not reject the LIE.

Conservatives: AOC said she feared for her life. What a liar! She should go back to being a bartender.

Also Conservatives: Trump claims he won in a landslide victory, I believe him! I also totally believe that Hillary is on video eating a baby's face! I'll believe anything!
