Slowly but surely the thought and speech police are pushing the bounds of equality further into the realm of misogyny. The politics of offence has become offensive to what has been a bedrock of civilised society, the nurturing, protection and celebration of motherhood. If culture lives in language, the full-frontal assault now being waged against the natural order of childbirth and motherly affection posits a bleak future for Western civilisation. The latest example of censure, which would be inconceivable to most citizens, comes from the UK parliament, where legislation on paid maternity leave for MPs has become entangled in the culture war on women. As Jacquelin Magnay wrote on Wednesday, there are no pregnant women in the bill, only pregnant persons. Women in Britain also have lost their right to breastfeed, they must now chest-feed, lest they offend transgender parents who no longer want to be considered female despite having given birth. Acceptance of difference has become a tyranny of conformity.

The co-opting of maternity leave legislation by politically correct language police has outraged members of the House of Lords. The push is part of a bigger movement to delegitimise the status of women generally. Self-identification is sufficient for anyone, regardless of gender, to be admitted to women’s hospital wards and single-sex jails. Conservative politician Baroness Sheila Noakes said she was not prepared to be erased as a woman regardless of any abuse she might receive on social media. Billionaire author JK Rowling has been the high-profile target for virtue-signalling shamers. She was accused of hate speech for ridiculing a World Health Organisation definition of women as “people who menstruate”, despite only half of the female population being of menstrual age at any one time. Rowling’s name has since been removed from school buildings in Britain, despite her Harry Potter novels being the catalyst for a generation of children to discover the joy of reading. LGBT+ campaigners blame her for Britain’s slide down the ranking of Europe’s equality index from first to 10th. For inclusion on some lists there is a price that is too high.

Confusing biological sex with gender identity and thereby devaluing the status of women is a folly. We agree with Lady Noakes that there is no malice in wishing to maintain the biological facts of womanhood and the lived experience of women, which includes menstruation, childbirth and menopause. It is a view that can happily coexist with respect and concern for transgender people.

Now we know how the Romans felt about the Christians   Since feeding the Christians to the lions didn't work for the Romans we can assume that you cannot stop a cult by a frontal attack.  

I know there are a lot of conspiracy theories about the motives behind the madness but I'm of the opinion that a lot of the dogma of the cult of wokeness is believed to one degree or the other by a lot of people including the people that are supposed to be part of the conspiracy.   The thing is that we had plenty of time to see what was going to happen.  I know I saw how every year the BBC, ABC, and CBC became more woke over at least the last two decades.  The idea that it started in the U.S. when a few French intellectuals introduced postmodernism is a gross oversimplification.  

The roots of wokeness are very old, you can see it's germination in the "Testament" of the atheist-priest Jean Meslier.

"In his wish and in his way of expressing his thought it seemed that he saw rather far and penetrated rather deeply into the detestable mystery of iniquity of which I just spoke, and recognized very well the perpetrators and instigators. His wish was that all the rulers of the earth and all the nobles be hanged and strangled with the guts of priests."

If you think Marx was original you would be wrong.  He was more a compiler and plagiarist than an original thinker.  He just became a kind of authority that people would turn to if they wanted to be profound.  All the elements of wokeness such as the destruction of the family, the concept of power as the defining force of human affairs, the self hatred, the hostility to religion, was all there before Marx.

Wokeness may have morphed a bit over time.  Taking on elements of misandry, reverse racism, anti-realism (especially in opposition to pragmatism), it may have dropped some of its scientific pretensions,  but it is at heart the same philosophy.  At its core is determinism.  It's a pretty muddled philosophy so don't expect a lot of consistency.  It holds that being Gay is biologically determined but denies biological determinism, you can be any sex or non sex you want.  You can deny freewill and in the next breath design a utopia.  You can assign collective responsibility but deny individual responsibility.  You can be a scientist but believe the Trump-Russia conspiracy theory and people will still say you are rational.  

A few decades ago when there were still a lot of nominal Christians we had the Satanic panic.  Religious thinking is not rational, it is emotive.  Now that the cult of wokeness is dominant we have the white male patriarchy moral panic.  Same animal different spots.  Instead of crosses and other religious icons they have their sign.  The I believe sign

It's all very emotive and equally irrational.  They obviously don't believe black lives matter or they would be focused on Africa not the West.  No human is Illegal unless of course they are a Trump supporter.  Love may be love but what exactly is love.  Women's rights are human rights sounds like they skipped biology.  Science is real unless of course you happen to believe humans are dimorphic apes.  Water may be important to life but it certainly isn't the only requirement.  Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere unless you happen to disagree with them on any point of their morality.  

Of course we believe is just the product of a simply minded follower.  It doesn't tell us a lot of what caused the cult to come into existence or what underpins it.  If you explained it to the average believer they would have no idea what your were talking about.

A few months ago I ran into a 40 something young man who was fixated on some of the popular conspiracy theories.  I recall one in particular, the moon landing was a hoax delusion.  I don't think he actually believed the hoax or the other ones he had considered but he persisted with rather articulate arguments.  He had probably been to college judging from his range of knowledge and his speech patterns.  You could say from his personal life that he was something of a modern hippy but not exactly.  He didn't seem tied to a conventional life such as a wife and family or a career.  He seemed to have just drifted for decades.  probably had had trouble with drugs although it didn't come up and or he didn't think it was a problem.   What he was doing although I don't think he realized it was making the postmodernist argument that reality was subjective.  He understood science but had rejected it as central to his understanding of the world.  Only clinging to the relativistic aspects that justified his subjectivity arguments.  He may have picked up religion to a degree possibly from being in prison on some drug offense, I don't know.  In any case he had a strong attachment to truth.  I tried to explain to him that truths were for the most part trivial at least to the extent that once something was known it becomes obvious.  When I tried to deconstruct his truths by showing that his opinions had been assigned to him by his experiences and fate in life he became righteously hostile.  I don't blame him.  He had realized that determinism had sucked the meaning out of his life and had no idea how to restore it.  I could not explain this concept to him and our conversation ended by him telling me I was as deluded as his engineer father and sister.

Most people don't fall into the pit of despair and denial my young man had when realizing that the world was deterministic.  They have all the joys of a conventional life, mate, children, career, music, art, sports, friends, hobbies, community.  All the distractions of a traditional Western lifestyle.  It's the people like him that fell through the social cracks that ironical the church of wokeness have raised to sainthood.  Minorities, people with sexual identity issues, people from less developed nations, even to some degree criminals.  The people for whom determinism didn't work out well.  People for whom freewill and agency was more of a burden than a source of dignity.  The sainthood of losers is almost a penitence to ensure individual salvation for the faithful.

Our failure as a civilization is to find a substitute for religion as a source of freewill, agency, dignity, and meaning.  In every civilization that rises to a certain level of luxus the old myths die off.  Only for  the hole to be filled by new myths.  We are in that transition period.  The cult of wokeness is becoming a fully fledged religion right in front of our eyes.   It is being cooped by the political  establishment just as Christianity was by the unbelieving political powers of a decaying Roman empire.  Whatever purity it had is being corrupted by that process.  What had made Rome so powerful was not it's superiority in sophistication, although that was inherited from the Greeks, it was their moral code.  A moral code almost unrecognizable from our current perspective.  Every time some power destroyed a Roman army a new one would spring up to replace it.  To outsiders like Pyrrhus of Epirus  it was almost unimaginable that a city state could have that kind of will.  Greece had once had that will and it conquered the world but it had lost its faith in itself.  

I wanted to discuss morality but have mumbled on long enough.  I just want to end by saying if you want to save Western civilization you need to restore faith.  To do that you have to restore freewill, agency and dignity.  Create a world where people find meaning from a morality not from power, luxus, sex or drugs.  Especially the elites.

It's sad.

The "wokes" think they can build a society by destroying reality.

Not only can they not build a society that way, but they can't destroy reality in any case.

As I say, it's just sad.
