Im so conflicted. on one hand im pissed that in the current system for allowing me to be so fine with being lazy but at the same time ive never been so financially stable. pretty sure half the reason for the second part is the fact im not wearing rose colored glasses and im completely aware of the flaws in the system and that this surplus of income will end and i need to not get used to it like i think many of my fellow conservatives think people will do if we allow this model to continue. i won't lie it werent for the fact i come at it from a conservative background i could see how it would be tempting to vote for this solution every time. what i just find hysterical as i think about myself benefitting from this awful model right now is that Democrats voted for this model to help themselves. like i look at my income for 2020 and it’s made up of disability and pandemic UC. i worked for none of it, sure taxes were take. out of the UC payments but it was still “free” money. let’s look at the jobs that have been closed since kast year vs what has been open and allowed people to still work. The people working the “essential” jobs are a lot of young kids who likely lean liberal predominantly and then you have teachers who have still been working, albeit remotely, and most of them lean liberal. work from home office jobs are prob 50/50 but that means most people collecting the free money at this point are rhe ones who disnt even vote for it. now if you truly are a bleeding heart who wants to protect everyone and truly believes the virus is super deadly then im sure you have no problem with this but something tells me most aren’t and had no problem with the virus being an excuse not to work and get paid still and like a lot of my family i think many are getting pissednit didnt work out for them so now they actually want to get us all back to work again.

I, for one, am very concerned about the hyperinflation that is certain to follow, especially since I think that people like me - let's just say that my groups are "problematic" - probably don't have as much time left in the workforce as we planned and will be forced to retire before we're ready.

But all I can do is what I can control, which is precious little when you really think about it.

My wife and I had a very similar conversation earlier today. We both have fixed retirement incomes, but between the two of us we make do. Did covid hurt us financially? No. We don't "need" stimulus checks, and I'm sure millions of others don't, either. I think a lot of this has to do with securing votes down the road. The other possibility is the govt is getting us used to them being the ones who take care of us. Yes, there are many who truly need the stimulus money, but I can't help but feel there's something larger at play here.

@farmerguy56 Time will tell, but I fear by the time enough wake up to do something about it, it will be too late.

yeah, like for me i do actually need the money. the government lock downs closed my place of employment . where im conflicted on is the extra money from UC and the not having to do anything to get it at all. as nice as the extra money is and it would be hard to say goodbye to it i don't really NEED it and thankfully i never became accustomed to it like i feel many have. i just put it aside and now i actually have a savings and can consider moving to a larger place because i can afford larger but i didn’t have a safety net before if i had a bad month so i had to settle with a smaller place so i w stretched as thin. i mean if we HAD to give out money the way we did i would have said just pay us what we would have made working and nothing more, maybe any back pay we missed while we were hashing out the details as well. the same goes for the having to do basically nothing to get all the free money. again it will be hard to pass up the free money but like i said i prefer to work for my money. id much rather get paid to work than do nothing. as soon as my job opens back up ill gladly go back as hard as that may be. and i know many have told me just go find something but in case they forgot there’s a pandemic. its not like we chose to just close down because things were slow on their own or whatever. we are all in this together isnt that what we’ve been saying? now sure if my employer contacts me and says we are done ill start looking for work again even though i could just stay on UC even then too but at that point it was my company saying we are done, not the government and societal opinion saying we should be closes to save lives. i like my job, and im not gunna be forced to change careers over this. like i want it to be my choice to change jobs not the governments.
