A significant portion of the community exists due to abuse at an early age, either directly against them, or a family member. This is precisely the issues therapists are supposed to address for anyone wanting to transition. Sexuality is alterable - I personally can attest to such. There is an innateness about it, but subject to conscious choice. Gender is innate also, but much more difficult - if at all - to choose. in my experience and understanding.
The human brain is profound in it's ability to adapt and change. I support organizations that seek to help people deal with themselves in a compassionate way. The idea you can outlaw such is disgusting abuse.
I would say that a percentage have a history of physical and mental abuse that expresses itself in hatred of one's sex, or denial of it. But certainly not all, or necessarily a majority of the community.
@tracycoyle that sounds reasonable - homosexuality is "made" not born imho.
I admit to some confusion here.
Why would there even be a question about whether you can make a choice to no longer be trans when one of the identities the LGBTQ+ folks celebrate is genderfluid, meaning you can be whatever you want to be when the mood strikes you?
So a genderfluid person can be a man in the morning and a woman for afternoon tea, but supposedly a transgender person can never be anything but transgender?
Uh, okay.
