Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.There are two kinds of people in this world: the kind who think that their problems are their own responsibility to solve and the kind who think "someone else" is to blame for all the bad things that happen in their lives.
The first kind of person could NEVER be a socialist; the second kind invariably is. Socialism is basically an abdication of personal responsibility in exchange for obedience to society.
What most people THINK socialism is, is how most of us grew up: where - as a child - you had limited responsibility to actually take care of yourself, that some authority - be it a parent or guardian - took care of all the heavy lifting and all you really had to worry about was the stuff your authority figure asked you to take care of, and you probably groused about that too. That's what people want. They want to go back to that period of childhood where they didn't have to worry about getting up to go to work and dealing with the inequities of a merit-based society; they just want someone to take care of all the heavy lifting and they are more than willing to sacrifice personal liberties in order to make that happen.

I don't see the connection. Personal responsibility is a choice, not something we fail to teach people.
I am not aware of any school anywhere that teaches children that their own lives are someone else's responsibility. Even today's sad state of education teaches children that they are responsible for creating social justice for OTHERS, but not that they themselves have the right to sit back, do nothing, and be given social justice.
Similarly, I'm not aware of any case where a parent failed to teach their child how to walk, be potty trained, dress themselves, etc and be given a parent of the year award.
If you're looking for a target for criticism, I can only suggest that it is society at large that has failed in its duty to impress upon its adults the need for personal responsibility, and you can trace that at least as far back as the woman who successfully sued McDonald's for not adequately warning her that coffee is hot, which is the earliest well-known case I can remember that rewarded someone for being personally irresponsible by pleading ignorance to their need to be personally responsible.
I know that you and I will never agree on the importance of personal responsibility, but I really don't see how people eschewing it is a failure of parents and educators to impress upon their children the need for it. Granted, at the university levels, all bets are off; but then, they are supposedly no longer children at that point and should be beyond the need for socialization.
that's not the problem - the problem is that they know all they need to know about Karl Marx and all about Socialism in the abstract. It all seems so righteous and good that way.
Who they don't know enough about are names like: Stalin, Lenin, Hitler, Castro, Mao...
This is where the "rubber hits the road" where Socialism is concerned. This - the practical and inevitable reality of Socialism in its application is the part that is missing in the "education" of our youth.
