This is going to be my Soap Box rant for today!!!!
Yesterday, about 3:30 pm, I was at work, a young, about 18 yoa about 6 feet tall 180#, started kicking the displace glass on the outside of the business where I work!!! Before we could get a good look at him, he had moved on, so we checked your security tape, and were able to get a good description and direction of travel!!! Myself and another employee left the store and went to confront the suspect (attempted vandalism)!!!
As we were catching up to the suspect, we witnessed him preparing to suck punch/blindside a man on the sidewalk!!! This man appeared to be in his late seventies and had not interacted in any way with the suspect!!!
The other employee was able to intercept the punch and take the suspect to the ground!!!
I assisted my fellow employee to restrain the suspect, we called 911, and turned the suspect over to the police!!! Did I mention, the suspect was drunk???
NOW here is the thing that I want to RANT about!!!!
My employer, one of the partners, was upset that our actions might reflect badly on the business!!!
My thought was, our actions should reflect POSITIVELY on our business!!! We stopped a drunk from damaging property and/or injuring someone else!!!
WHAT HAS OUR SOCIETY COME TO, THAT ANY RESPONSIBLE ADULT, WOULD THINK THAT NOT TAKING ACTION IN A SITUATION LIKE THIS WAS THE RIGHT THING TO DO?????????????
Witnesses at the scene (who had NO idea of the Circumstances) where we took the suspect down, were trying get us to let him go!!! Like we were the bad guys!!!
And we wonder why our society is collapsing!!!
The positive thing in this story, the other Partner in the business (who was not present at the time) called me at home in the evening and thanked me for doing the right thing!!!!!
Our cities are falling apart because of things like this!!!
IT IS TIME TO STAND UP AND DO THE RIGHT THING!!!!!!!!
