The one narrative I can simply NOT wrap my brain around is that black people who don't espouse the "black narrative" of perpetual oppression and victimhood are race traitors. What. The. Hell?
The best and the brightest of the community - who largely achieved what they achieved by the force of their own convictions, even IF it was in a world that was systematically against them - are denounced and silenced as "bootlickers" because they figured it all out?
Name for me ANY other thing where the people who are the most successful are the ones sneered at. "Oh that Tom Brady, he thinks he's so good, but he's really a traitor against quarterbacks everywhere, making the rest of them look bad and all." "Oh that P Diddy, who the Hell does he think he is rising out of a life of crime to build a financial empire? He should be back here in the projects with the rest of us, complaining how it's impossible to succeed in the white man's world."
I mean, FFS.
And the worst part? The WORST part? We encourage this shit. We ENCOURAGE people to think this way. "Yeah, that guy who made something out of himself, he's just giving you all the middle finger because you tried literally nothing to change your life and none of it worked. Fuck that guy."
