Maybe it's just me, but I think restricting women's autonomy over their bodies and creating a vigilante surveillance economy to subordinate them qualifies as protofascist.

First, I agree wholeheartedly that the father of the baby can and should be held responsible for that baby. This is a no-brainer and should become a legal (not just a moral) responsibility.

Now to the real point: Abortion. The issue is not who can be the most irresponsible or who is more wrong. The true issue isn’t the rights of the mother or the rights of the father. The true issue is the most basic right of all; the right to not be killed. The woman is unhappy by the fact that having sex can result in having a baby and maybe she chose to have sex with an irresponsable, detestable man, so she should be allowed to take it out on and murder the baby? What did that baby do that deserves the death penalty?

As you implied, the man should be held responsible. His actions are responsible for a child. He has no right to murder that innocent child either. Both the mother and the father have a responsibility to the child. Because the mother has the responsibility to carry the child and give birth to the child, the father has the responsibility to care for that child by caring for the mother until that child is born and then both have a responsibility for the child’s well-being until he or she reaches the age of majority (18 y/o in most of the US). This responsibility does not rest solely on the shoulders of the father, but also on the shoulders of the mother.

If they choose not to stay together and raise that child, there is the option of adoption. While the child is in the mother’s womb (arguably or with her), the father is responsible for the care of the mother’s needs as she is the necessary home of the child. If she gives the child up for adoption, he should have the first option to adopt. If he can’t or won’t adopt the child he should pay child support to whoever does raise the child. If neither parent raises the child they should both be held responsible for the child and pay child support. The point here is that it’s not the father’s or the mother’s rights that are in question with voluntary abortion, it’s the child’s right to live. The child is innocent and should not die because the mother and father are irresponsible, murderous, self absorbed, worthless members of society.

I have no idea how many siblings I might have (or how many I might have had if murdering the baby weren’t an option). My father was a part of the free-love generation. He married my mother and gave her 4 children, but he wasn’t faithfully during that marriage (or any of his other marriages as far as I know). He joined the navy when he was 16 or 17 y/o and had sex with a lot of women in many different places. For him it was recreation and came with no responsibility. He only paid $150 in his whole life for child support and that was only so that his next marriage wouldn’t be spoiled by a court injunction. He was a very charming man loved by many women and admired by many men, but he lived for himself and died by himself.

Abortion is not a “religious issue”. Abortion doesn’t just harm the child that is murdered; it harms the mother, the father, the “doctor”/murderer and the society that encourages/allows it. We are a society of rights AND responsibilities. Rights come with responsibilities and no society can endure if the the rights of the weak and innocent are trampled in order to support the whims-without-responsibility of others.
