I don't think modern music sucks, its just harder to find the good stuff, especially in a market saturated with mediocre and trash. Let's face it, most commercial music is just that - a commercial for the narrative. It used to be that you had to get signed to a major label to get distribution and air time. Now, many good artists have gone independent, and rely on themselves and their 'scene' to promote them. The internet (particularly blogs, forums and YouTube/Spotify) is the new version of 'air
time' that gets the band to be heard. There's a lot of awesome stuff out there for every niche.
Commercial music on the other hand has gotten worse and worse and is the equivalent of a spam crossed with Pornhub, crossed with Walmart, crossed with the shopping network's illegitimate love child with CNN.

The video link should work now. I agree, the only decent (in every sense of the word) music around now is on the independent scene. By the way, for an in-depth look into the present and accelerating state of modern commercial music just check out the likes of lip sync strippers like Cardi B on most music awards shows.
I noticed this years back. The more idiotic the lyrics, the more popular it becomes. It could have started as far back as the Papaya Song.
