@Sensrhim4hizvewz USA became the worlds policeman by default following the end of WW11 - Most of Europe was in shambles; The Russians divided Germany with the Berlin Wall. The only country with the resources and the will to support Western Europe and to protect it from Communist Soviet Union was USA.
When the Berlin Wall came down is the time that Germany and really all of Europe should have taken a more pro-active role in defense of their own sovereignty - but they didn't do that. USA has been footing the bill for military support for Western Europe all along.

BTW the Soviet Union did NOT ally with the western allies because they were in any way shape or form politically philosophically, aligned with the West. Quite the opposite - The Soviets were Communist through and through and they had no intent to change their commitment to Communism itself.
It was Hitler - NOT the allies - who drew the Soviets into WWII. That was one of Hitlers most egregious mistakes in his strategy for conducting the war. Hitler initiated the campaign against Soviet Russia - NOT the other way around.
The only way that the USSR and the Western alliance became "allies against Hitler" was the mere fact that Hitler was their common enemy.
