I think communists, of the Marxist variety, have learned that revolution is not the best way to gain power. They have learned that after the revolution they must exact heavy controls on the population or it will revolt. The best way to bring a nation to its knees is through internal strife. Using dialectical materialism to divide and conquer. Most nations have minorities that can can be classified as victims of the social structure. Marx, of course, highlighted the rich/poor, class struggle, pitting the proletariat against the bourgeoisie, from there he devised his whole convoluted economic labor theory of value.
He basically, polarized the classes and the poor who were much greater in number and could, once united, overthrow the ruling class in a revolution. The Social class struggle was the rubric that drove the revolution and Marx saw it as an international, global problem. There were monarchic empires that ruled over the people and accumulated all the wealth under themselves. It is true that the structure was rather rigid and natural human rights were not guaranteed to individuals so that they could better their standard of living and their security of person and property. It was clear that monarchs and their empires had to go. WWl essentially accomplished that and the international communist movement was started in Russia with the Bolshevik revolution. Revolutions then spread to eastern Europe - Poland, Hungary, Romania, Czechoslovakia, and the USSR was born. It was a constant struggle to hold it altogether, the people were not better off and lived under tyranny until it finally collapsed in 1989.
Communists today undermine nations internally and usurp national sovereignty to international agencies like the UN, the IMF and the World bank. The WEF has stepped in and has lobbied all nations to get on the global bandwagon to centralize power in order to fight manufactured global problems like, climate change, pandemics, resource depletion, over-population and resistance to centralizing power. Breaking down national sovereignty is how the communists are fighting today. Russia rejected communism so stands in opposition. The west is embracing communism so we see a conflict in Ukraine. China already is communist and criticism of it from the west is dulled down. Communism at work in the west is what China is watching. Communism in the west is polarizing populations and weakening national sovereignty. The Chinese will be able to step in and take over once the western democratic republics collapse. They are already buying up whatever they can in other nations, in the way of corporations and property.

We are living in very interesting times. Communism will, if it succeeds, always struggle to sustain itself because it does not recognize individual human rights and freedoms and the world is too diverse to amalgamate under one roof. Do you get that trick there? Diversity, inclusion and equity are tools to destroy any diversity, inclusion and equity that national sovereignty grants in western democratic republics not to celebrate or recognize it.
