Am I outraged? No, I'm quite amused at the mental gymnastics required to equate religion, art history and anatomy classes to pornography.
I'm sure if I referenced Pornhub in my assignments at med school I would have been kicked out of the course and been made a laughing stock.

@Tom81 do you think porn is bad? Is it immoral? Is it exploitative? Does it contribute to crime and rape statistics? Does it contribute to divorces and failed relationships? Is it addicting? Perhaps we should study it to find these answers? Perhaps some sort of analysis?

Pornography is often protected under First Amendment rights as "art" - so yeah, comparing it to art history isn't quite the stretch you think it is. Maybe it can be studied along with religion, and how it has gotten more or less graphic as religion ebbs and flows? Can't do that if we stick our fingers in our ears and pretend it doesn't exist, now can we?

Interestingly enough, as the sex industry is the oldest profession in the world, it has a large impact on technological breakthroughs. It's said that the format wars were won by porn - when the porn industry chose to release videos on VHS instead of BetaMax, that was the final nail in the coffin, despite BetaMax being the superior technology. Same reason Blu-Ray won over HD-DVD. Our current advancements in online video and streaming are owed to porn. Even things like telemedicine and robotic surgeries are owed to porn, which started the research of "teledildonics" originally to allow people to fuck over the Internet. So perhaps it isn't a crazy thing to study?

But no, you are whining about an elective course that can be taken by legal adults at a university you never plan to attend that has no impact on your life whatsoever.

@JacksonNought well that was a good try, but no - if you read the course description it mentioned none of those things. It states "we will watch pornographic films together and discuss the sexualisation of race, class and gender and as an experimental, radical artform".
Sounds to me more like they're politicising porn .
