LINK French 'left' agrees to rare coalition deal to Deprive Macron of a Majority Government | Reuters
Eurosceptics to the Left, Eurosceptics to the right and Macron stuck in the 'centre' of both groups This week the Left eurosceptic party says that wants to "disobey" EU rules and "destabilise the Brussels machine", departing for the first time from the pro-EU stance of previous left-wing coalitions.
France's Socialist Party and the hard-left La France Insoumise (LFI) agreed in principle on Wednesday to run together in June parliamentary elections and try to deprive newly re-elected President Emmanuel Macron of a majority. If confirmed, the coalition pact, which the Greens and Communists approved earlier this week, will be the first time the French left has united in 20 years - but under the helm of the eurosceptic, leftist LFI this time around. France's far-right is also eurosceptic. Newly re-elected President Macron wants more EU integration which neither the left or right wants.
The new alliance, says it wants to stay within the EU and does not want to abandon the euro though some of its policies would certainly put France on a collision course with Brussels.
The question is will the 'Centre' in France be able to maintain control or will it collapse in the future when the 'EU darling Macron' it's out of the picture? The lack of any obvious successor, increases the prospect of one of the two eurosceptic blocs winning power in the future.
