Jesse Watters served a glorious definition. Watters defined the "Common Sense Conservative".

Thomas Paine published a pamphlet titled "Common Sense", and it went viral. 18th century America had common sense, and 21st century America doesn't. In the 21st century, common sense is uncommon.

In the Revolutionary War, American soldiers had in their backpacks a bible, gunpowder, and a copy of Paine's common sense pamphlet. These soldiers fought valiantly. Thomas Paine is a co-MVP of the American Revolutionary War.

In the 18th century, it wasn't easy to launch a viral pamphlet. Pamphlets require ink, paper, and typesetting labor. Give Paine credit for producing a viral pamphlet in this world. Give no credit for a viral post in the 21st century world. It's easy to move electrons around, and not so easy to move nuclei around.

At Valley Forge, there was no internet. There was only pamphlets.

Thomas Paine fought in the army. He suffered with the soldiers. Paine was dirty, exhausted, and malnourished. Washington gave Paine an order. Washington ordered Paine to go to Philadelphia and write a pamphlet.

Paine went to Philadelphia, and was greeted by Benjamin Rush, a doctor that is a personal friend of Benjamin Franklin. Doctor Rush treated Paine's ailments, and he gave Paine a room in his house. Rush gave Paine a quill, ink, a desk, and a room of solitude so that Paine could write in peace. Paine wrote the pamphlet "Winter Soldier", and it went viral.

Benjamin Franklin is The Shadow. He saw that the Revolutionary War was coming long before others. Franklin prepared by building the Philadelphia Philosophical society, by inviting Paine to move from Scotland to America, and by inviting Baron von Steuben to move from Prussia to America. Baron von Steuben proved to be a great coach, and he coached American soldiers to kick England's ass.

Franklin was the American ambassador to France, and he coaxed Lafayette to go all in on America.

The Shadow knows.

In the world of mathematics, definitions matter. To solve a problem, you must first make the problem well defined. That's half the progress to solving the problem. When faced with a demon, naming the demon is half the progress to slaying the demon.

Trump named demons that were not previously named. Trump looked into the shadows and saw demons, and named them, and shamed them. Trump demanded that the demons go back to the shadows.

The Tea Party is a glorious expression of American common sense.

21st century conservatives have common sense and Democrats don't. Common sense has become uncommon. Republicans can virtue signal that they have uncommon sense. We need a common sense renaissance.

America needs reincarnations of Thomas Paine. America needs souls to carry the flame. Gingrich, Coulter, and Trump.

I'm writing a pamphlet on uncommon sense, and I welcome contributions from Slug.

The biggest enemy to common sense is the delegating of one's sense-making to someone else, to go the way of groupthink. If there's herd immunity, there is also herd mentality, where those in an in-group (regardless of being Woke or conservative) succumb to knee jerk responses to new information by mere observation on how the rest of the herd responds to it. Conservatives are not immune to this. The best approach is to know that herd mentality exists, and that it is best to explore all possible logical conclusions to new information first before rendering a final one (conclusion). In short, don't outsource your sense-making, because that can be exploited.

Living in harsh conditions (like all of time before the late 19th century) a person who lacked "common sense" were more likely to die younger than those who did have common sense - IMHO.
Here in 20th and 21st centuries People can and do get away even though they seem devoid of common sense.

If your meme means the right wing includes Constitutionalists, it is wrong. Only the Left will assert that they are the same. They intend to claim they are as good as Constitutionalists except the Left has all their empty promises, that dumber voters believe, and Constitutionalists won't make.

@TimTuolomne

Yes, the meme is imperfect. We need a better meme. Suggestions?

Conjecture: Constitutionalist = Common Sense

This conjecture has been proved many times by American history.

Leftists see the constitution as unvirtue. Conservatives see the Constitution as virtue.

@jaymaron Generalizations are imperfect, and tend to be misleading. And unfortunately the dumber half of of the voting base are willing to latch onto anything that seems right on the surface.

@TimTuolomne

It feels like this is something that mathematicians should weigh in on. Opinions?

Mathematics understands how to handle generality. When mathematicians concoct a theorem, they're specific about definitions. They're specific about what objects obey the theorem and which objects don't.

True and false are false gods. be beyond true and false. What matters is theorems and definitions. What matters is crafting good theorems, that have power, and about being specific about which objects fall within the theorem and which objects don't.

Bertrand Russel made bigly contributions to both mathematic and philosophy. His contribution to mathematics launched the glorious Zermelo-Frankel axioms of set theory. Russel wrote about the difference between truth and mathematics, and anyone that's not aware of what Russel wrote whiffed. Russel is entitled to a say about philosophy because he has legit math wins. Most psychologists are mathematically retarded.

In mathematics, there is Abelian algebra and non-Abelian algebra. Both are beautiful. To feel their beauty, you need to come to grips with the definition of "Abelian".

Abelian objects obey XY = YX. There exist objects that are non-Abelian, and they are beautiful, and you need them. Learn to love them. learn to love the bomb.

Professor Forelli is a professor of mathematics at U. Wisconsin, and he teaches the analysis class. Professor Forelli said:

"You must come to grips with the difference between continuity and uniform continuity."

Professor Forelli told us that there are functions that are uniformly continuous, and they are like tamed animals. They're like pets. You can pet them. Your intuition about them is usually right.

Pofessor Forelli showed us functions that are not uniformly continuous, and that they are like untamed bulls. Professor Forelli taught us respect for these bulls. Functions that are not uniformly continuous can do scary things.

Your intuition about functions that are not uniformly continuous is usually wrong.

Democrats are simpletons. They can't handle complexity. They assume that everything is Abelian, which mean that they are blind to the beauty of non-Abelian algebra. They are blind to the glorious Pauli theory of electron spin, which is non-Abelian.

If you try to strawman electrons as Abelian, electrons will laugh at you. The laws of physics laugh at you. Democrats can censor, but they can't break the laws of physics.

Democrats concoct lazy generalizations. They have no awareness that there exists a border, and that some objects are inside the border and some are not. It's not about the theorem. It's about the border.

@jaymaron Exactly. The Chinese way of thinking is to regard everything as possible at once, as if the quantum scale presents the same as in our macro scale...which it does not. Democrats often confuse things like that for wisdom. To paraphrase a Chinese proverb: To an ant, another ant is wise.

@TimTuolomne

Someone asked the mathematician Grothendieck if he should invest his research in Platonic solids. Grothendieck said no, because their properties are so restrictive that few objects satisfy them.

A theorem that covers almost all cases is usually not powerful. It doesn't give you much.

There exist theorems that cover only a small subset of the cases, and these specialized theorems tend to have great power.

You're looking for the theorem sweet spot. You're looking for theorems that cover both a large set of cases, and also have power.

@jaymaron I remain skeptical that mathematics will be a useful social tool soon. I fervently hope not anyway, because the first to use such tools against humanity will be the Great Reset folks of the WEF. There exists already some evidence around the edges that they have discovered ways to exploit AI to utilize nanotechnology in the "vaccine." I fervently hope that is not so as well.

@TimTuolomne

The "Arrow theorem of elections" is an example of pure mathematics that has bigly social impact. It's embarrassing that humanity didn't discover it until 1950.

The mathematicians Persi Diaconis proved that 4 shuffles is insufficient to properly randomize a deck of cards, and he proved that 7 is sufficient. Another example of mathematics with social impact. Bridge tournaments changed the rules to requires 7 shuffles.

In sports, there is much mathematics in tournament systems and in league systems. The systems we have at present suck, and they reflect poor mathematics. Big games that should happen don't happen. jaymaron.com/sports.html [jaymaron.com]

The Alexander Technique community is well respected by professional musicians, and the technique is grounded in physics and biometrics. Altech practioners recognize that the stability of your skull affects your mental state, and they have a mature theory.

Biometrics is all physics. Textbook: jaymaron.com/shaolin.html [jaymaron.com]

The age of supercomputers spawned the age of computational physics, and the algorithms of computational physics are used to construct AIs and to study the brain. For example, the simulated anneal algorithm is a powerful model for describing the brain.

Annealing metal is subjecting it to alternating hot and cold. It's like a bottle of pills. If you stuff them randomly into the bottle, they occupy some volume. If you shake the bottle, the pills settle into a smaller volume.

Being drunk is the "hot state" and being stoned is the "cold state".
