@NewbieMAGA Didn't your parents tell you, "Don't speak ill of the dead, because one day you will be too and you don't want people talking bad about you when you're not there to defend yourself?" It's not the Confederacy that is sacred, it's that man's grave, and the graves of all the other people the leftists will soon be desecrating. While I loathe that "peculiar institution" the United States shed so much blood to abolish, I shall never condone the desecration of anyone's grave, not even Lenin's.

Don't think your head is not on the block and the axe is coming down unless you, me and everyone else with a brain takes a stand. I care nothing for the statue. But you, sir, are without a shred of morality and have no understanding of what made America great in the first place. It wasn't the plethora of real and egregious faults, it was and is the willingness to correct them. What you propose is not a correction of faults but a descent into chaos.

@NewbieMAGA And it will be much easier for the left to rewrite history when there’s no physical evidence left. Our failures are as important (if not more) than our successes. We can learn profound lessons when we or others do wrong, but we seldom learn when we do it right the first time.

There is a lot to learn about the civil war and what caused it. It wasn’t just slavery. It wasn’t even mostly slavery. You might want to check it out before the evidence is all gone. They don’t teach it in public schools any more and haven’t for many decades.

@Daveclark5 Yes, slavery was just one issue and the moral force driving Union soldiers to fight. But what was happening was a culture clash between the Northern Rugged Individualist and the Southern aristocrats.

@FuzzyMarineVet yes and no. The north depended upon the south to provide the raw materials (like cotton) for their manufacturing (textiles, etc). There was a power struggle for the profits from the final products. The south wanted to make a profit and the north wanted to make a profit also. Both had power over the other. One of the final straws was when the north wanted the south to free the slaves that they had invested money in without giving them any way of being able to provide the raw materials and leaving them at the mercy of the north for the final products they needed. To add insult to injury, the north refused to hold themselves to the same standards.

Slavery needed to be abolished, but the pain of the loss couldn’t be foisted only on one side. Many slaves were mistreated, many were cared for like family members and worked alongside their masters and their family members. When the slaves were finally freed, many preferred to stay with their owners because it was a good life for them and they didn’t know how to care for themselves.

There were other issues as well. It wasn't just a war to end slavery. The civil war was a terrible way to resolve the issues between the north and the south. The war harmed everybody no matter the color of their skin. BTW, Not all slaves were black/brown. There were many Europeans whiter than their owners.

My point is that if we erase our history, we won’t learn from it and if we refuse to learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it.
