It would shock all of them to know that the Constitution is the only document in history that LIMITS government against government overreach, and that it is not irrelevant.

If they understood that, it would start them to re-think their judgments based on shallow personality contests, and start them to think in terms of defense of their rights, and who is more likely to do that.

"NOT Trump" - is the answer I expected to hear. This is not shocking at all. The ability to think and reason - to use common sense and logic - is a rare quality.
I believe a reason for that is that people in general are afraid to give much more than a passing thought about serious matters because it would force them to question their fidelity to values they profess to hold.
It would require them to question most of their own ideas and worst of all it would require them to have some working knowledge on the subject in question.
So people take the path of least resistance. When they realize their ignorance and poor decision making habits are being revealed they back out of the questions being asked. Sometimes they make an embarrassed smile and stammer and stutter as they turn away. Others will go off tangentially - making wild, angry remarks and try to shame the person asking them to explain themselves.
I believe people have a fundamental drive to "fit in" - to NOT stand out or stand up - to NOT go against the grain. We have seen examples of this "mob mentality" - Nazi Germany is the perfect illustration of it.
It was much safer and easier for the German people to turn away from the obviously amoral, evil dogma of National Socialism and to turn a blind eye to the attempt to utterly murder Jews and to steal their property than it would have been to stand up and to say "this is wrong"
Once we give evil a big voice - a platform from which to spew its dogma, once we allowed obviously evil motivated people to take a seat of power the great mob - the general population took the safe, easy, turn toward acceptance of it.
To be a free thinking - intellectually honest person is risky business - to put it mildly.
So why bother acknowledging the fact that Biden has only done harm to the Nation when you can "earn bodafides" by making untruthful and virtuous sounding accusations against Trump.
Trump is perpetually tied to the whipping post - he is the effigy for all that "the mob" fears and hates.
