haven't you figured it out? "our savings" is not ours - anymore. Gov't wants to take away any and all materials and ideas that might make a person believe he is in charge of his own life. Gov't is systematically deconstructing the ideas and the institutions (like the US Constitution). The very idea of "the autonomous man" - "the rugged individualist" is offensive to the Communist ideal - those two things are intractably incompatible.
Gov't intentionally manipulated the oil/gas resource industries - in order to make people suffer as much as possible in winter time. They have intentionally disrupted logistics in the supply chain in order to make consumer items (which includes food) scarcer and a rapid increase in costs associated with that. Gov't has intentionally devalued currency. So that even if you had a large "sum" saved your money has little to no value. The Gov't is obviously trying to force universal dependence upon them - in effect Gov't is saying to us all - "oh you want to keep your family warm in winter? You want to have food and clothing and transportation and a hovel in which to live? You can have those things when you demonstrate your compliance to our methods".
I seem to remember Obama saying something like the following: "people can make their own decisions but its OUR JOB to make sure they make the RIGHT DECISIONS.
Communists are about to declare "Checkmate" in USA, Australia, Great Britain, Western Europe...
If people don't believe the living conditions described by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyns work "The Gulag Archipelago" either didn't really happen or that it cannot happen again "here in the modern age" - Think again sunshine (with a not to Dr. Jordan Peterson).
I believe it is being reanimated here in USA right before our very eyes.
