2024: Trump or bust?

I was recently forwarded an article by somebody I respect. This article was written in “American Thinker” by Eli Friedman, entitled “2024: Trump or bust”. 

The article, rather than being the thought provoking presentation of facts followed by wise analysis, seemed to be more of a brutish demand to fall in line behind President Trump or be destroyed. Eli chose the most popular and successful winner of the 2022 midterm elections to attack: DeSantis. His article may provoke a further rift among the conservatives over the question of who we should support in 2024. 

In order to bully people into voting for President Trump in 2024 regardless of who might be the best choice, Eli seems to pressure/threaten all those who might use their own minds to determine who would be the best candidate. (“No Republican will make it through the primary season against Trump in good enough shape to win the general election.“ ) This tactic may work for weak minded people, but for many true “American Thinkers” this tactic has the opposite effect. 



As I was growing up, I wasn’t a rebellious youth unless somebody tried to use peer pressure or bullying to force me to do something. That’s when I would stiffen my neck and choose to do the opposite of what they demanded. 

The vast majority of those who refused to take the jab or to wear 2 or 3 masks during the Plandemic were the same type of Thinkers; people who assess what they’re told to do before making an informed decision and who resist tyranny when the facts indicated they tyrants were wrong. These were mostly conservatives and independents. Are these really the people with whom you want to pick a fight. 



Personally, I voted against Killery Klinton in 2016 by voting for President Trump. I assessed him and wasn’t sure if he was trustworthy and I didn’t vote for him in the primaries, but I had determined he was a far better choice than Killery. By the time 2020 had rolled around, all the peer pressure in the form of constant lies and attacks attacks against our president and all the success despite extreme resistance from every side to his policies pushed me more into the Trump camp. Although he didn’t do everything right, and even buffooned a couple of decisions, I was glad to vote for him in 2020 and wasn’t just voting against Obiden. 



After reading the veiled threats and the fear mongering I am becoming less excited about voting for President Trump in 2024. Eli asserted, “DeSantis is a smart, courageous, strong, polished, sanctimonious, a Deep State tool. “. Then he went into some Trump qualities he seemed to think were good. Trumps ability to destroy his primary opponents no matter how good a choice they are so that they will not win in the general election, his cultish followers that would remain loyal to him even if he “pulled out a pistol and shot somebody in broad daylight on 5th avenue.” Although these may be factually true, these are far from qualities that make me want to vote for him. Perhaps this is why there are an equal number of people with TDS who would vote for the devil or even Obiden before voting for President Trump again. 



Bottom line is that American thinkers should not be deterred from voting for the best person for the job based upon each person’s individual research and analysis. I will vote for the best person (at this point that’s DeSantis) in the primaries. After the primaries, I will vote for the best candidate for the job that wins the primaries. 



Furthermore, I would suggest the country is divided enough. Articles like that of Eli Friedman serve little purpose other than to further divide conservatives from each other and from liberals and moderate democrats. Rather than driving a wedge between good candidates, maybe it would be wise to suggest they work together. I would vote for a ticket with Trump and DeSantis on it. We know Trump is running, but we’ve also seen how low the Demoncrats will stoop to take him out. If they should succeed in taking him out either using false accusations that somehow keep him from being considered or if they have him suicided, wouldn’t it be nice to have another option for the Only Trumpers?
