In Atlas Shrugged, Galt stops the motor of the world. Today, the world's motor is stopped, and the world did it to itself.
In the film Idiocracy, centuries of negative evolution produce a dumb president. Turns out we're ahead of schedule.
In the film Interstellar, humanity forgets how to farm. In reality, farmers remember how to farm but politicians forget.

I also watched a Russian talk show where they discussed sending nuclear missiles to crack open the Yellowstone caldera and cripple America. Of course it would take the whole northern hemisphere with it. They sounded like kids boasting about how they bust open a buried WWII bomb with hammers
However, Russian TV shows aren't the only ones talking about judgement falling from the heavens. It's also in the Book of Revelation:
Rev 8:8 The second angel sounded, and something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea; and a third of the sea became blood
Rev 8:10 ... a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of waters. 11The name of the star is called Wormwood; and a third of the waters became wormwood, and many men died from the waters, because they were made bitter.
