The mandate of the Catholic Church has always been political control. Religion is merely a means to that end. GW allows the imposition of carbon taxes, restrictions on travel, facilitates social engineering via demographic concentration into dense urban centres, and limits the use of natural resources to the privileged few.
Combined with the recent emphasis on the social gospel which is of course thinly veiled communism: wealth redistribution, erasure of borders, and forced equality of outcome, GW is an ideal vehicle for the Universal (Catholic) church to rapidly expand its already considerable global political influence.

@WorldSigh I agree that the Catholic Elites want political control: there are plenty of examples historically, and I don't think they have changed. However I don't dismiss Catholicism, because I see it as an evolved religion thousands of years old. So, I don't think GW is a Catholic problem, rather that it is a religious problem. There is the first amendment in the American constirution to consider as well: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”. This statement neither allows a law in favour of the establishment of a religion, nor the prohibition of it. In effect, the GW dogma is a religion. There is no scientific basis for it, no matter how many social scientists become involved. The science of GW is simply not settled. The fact that the pope is wading into the conversation only confirms the religious roots of the argument.

@Maatje Yes, as with most of the turmoil unfolding across the globe, it is not the fault of sincere Catholics. Anymore than the average citizen of China is responsible for the communist regime. We are all being manipulated by an elite, all of us.

I agree, GW is a religion, the religion of Earth or "Gaia" worship. The Catholic elite have cleverly incorporated Gaia worship into Catholicism, as they did with Roman Mithraism, Babylonian Paganism, etc. Whatever abetted the growing power and global reach of the church hierarchy was and is employed. Considering the present state of worldwide political, social, and religious affairs it is interesting that Gaia is the daughter of Chaos...
