Now we see why they’re so passionate about “ health care.” No better lever of power exists for controlling a population than “the good of the people.”

@Edgework the only evidence I can point to is the absence of bloody skirmishes in the cities, towns and bergs across the landscape.
I am not sure your age but when the Cuban missile crisis was going on I was 11 years old. There was an eerily palpable air of dread and fear. Do you know how after a heavy overnight snowfall the next day everything is quiet. Sound does not travel far - snow is a very good insulator. Their is little to no human activity. You hear the birds chirping, perhaps but they are muted sounds coming from who knows where...an eerie blanket of quiet hovers over your world. That is what I remember most about the Cuban Missile crisis. The dread silence. People were inactive - in their homes sitting near their radios and television sets. Waiting for the mushrooms to begin sprouting. Dread and fear hovered. Life itself was muted. I could feel it.
The suppression of normal human activity over the last 2 months is eerie like the eerie silence I remember from that time - the blanket of silence - the muted energy of human activity. The dread; only this time it is not fear so much as it is anger that I sense in people.
Just because there is little activity in the open spaces of towns and city streets doesn't mean things - potentially destructive things are not developing within the homes of the populace. We will run out of toilet paper long before we run out of ammunition.
This albeit muted but palpable anger is there - I can feel it. Just as I could feel it during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Sounds like I may be a year older than you. My memories of sixth grade are dominated by the sight of US Matines in pup tents that covered every inch of available space at the naval air base where my father was stationed. This was in Sanford Florida and they were massing for the invasion. It never happened, but I recall the fear.

Mark Twain is alleged (probably incorrectly), to have said “History never repeats itself, but it often rhymes.” If it’s war you’re looking for, how about an economy stagnating in an induced coma, for reasons long since proved bogus (that’s “proven,” as in following the data and letting it make the case.) We are under attack, from within, and I see the historical rhymes and echos in the fear that keeps people from standing up and asserting their rights, in the would-be Stalins like Gretchen Whitmer, the mini-Maos like Nancy Pelosi, the faux Fidels like AOC (minus the college education). We aren’t declared insane and banished to psychiatric hospitals simply for disagreeing with the official narrative, but we are banished from any communication outlets that might allow opposing options to be heard. And we’ve long since cast aside objective truth in favor of political truth. Anything can be said as long as it furthers the agenda. Politically driven science has become the norm. As for blood in the streets? We’ve seen it already. When Trump is re-elected, or, if the election is stolen from him, there will be more.

I could go on for the rest of the day, and I often do, to my wife’s eternal chagrin, but I think the point is made—we’re at war. We’ve been at war for a long time. Don’t look for Grant or Lee to lay seige to cities. War doesn’t look like it used to. Neither does the future. It slips in incrementally, so you won’t notice. Then one day you look around and realize, “It’s already here.”

Say “No,” if you wish. It’s a free country. Of course, you won’t have a “virus-free” card that you’ll need to enter any public venue. Eating out? Kiss that good bye. Bars and clubs? Not a chance? Groceries. Sure, through online ordering and a delivery surcharge. Basically, you’ll still be in lockdown.
