It’s not easy being Karen. Particularly when you get into a spat with the wrong person in the wrong town—NYC, in this case.

Amy Cooper is discovering this. After letting her dog run loose in Central Park against regulations, and getting into a spat with a birdwatcher who called her out and recorded her (and who just happened to be black), she’s become an unwitting and unwilling viral celebrity. She ludicrously called the police to report “an African-American man threatening my life,” and—BOOM, that life in the Big Apple was over for her. She’s still walking and breathing, but I doubt anything around her looks the same.

So far she’s lost her job at an investment firm, she’s had her dog taken from her, she will probably be banned from Central Park, and now she’s attracted the attention of the Commission On Human Rights, who has sent her a letter requesting her “cooperation” as they decide if an investigation is called for. In NYC, the PC capital of the world, that is tantamount to a summons from the Holy Vehm.

First of all, let’s state the obvious: this woman is an awful person and if she was in your life, you’d chew off your foot to get out of the trap. She is a type indigenous to Manhattan and various wannabe neighborhoods in the outer boroughs: affluent, entitled liberals who daily thank whatever God they worship that they are able to insulate themselves from the harsh reality of the city streets. They contribute to all the right causes, consider themselves enlightened, would never vote for Trump or associate with any of his deplorables and would be horribly offended at the suggestion that they might actually be racist.

Yeah, yeah, I know: lot’s of unwarranted assumptions in that last paragraph. But maybe not so much. I lived in New York for thirty years as an undercover conservative who was not sufficiently affluent to afford a co-op in a doorman building within walking distance of Central Park. But I moved among those who were. I’ll go with the odds that I nailed her. I could be wrong, but I don’t think so.

So now the question must be asked: is being a bitch sufficient cause to lose your entire way of life? In NYC it is, if you inadvertently cast yourself as an oppressor. Does anyone think that if white guy had called her out and recorded her, it would have become anything other than an amusing video, another chapter in the Karen saga. Now, it’s a ridiculous story, the magnitude of which should give no one satisfaction, whatever their race.

Part of me revels in Schadenfreude: revolutions always end up eating their own. Part of me feels gratitude that my wife and I got out of town before the DeBlasio regime turned the city into a people’s republic. But mostly, I just shake my head and wonder how our society went insane
