Clothing stores, bars/taverns, salons, barber shops....to name some. Most are small businesses, locally owned/operated.

Very little enforcement here as best I can tell restaurants and retailers are complying voluntarily. I see more and more gatherings of people in public places not wearing masks or social distancing. I continue to observe all the guidelines plus avoid going out more than necessary.

The pandemic has pointed out the vulnerabilities of a service economy. No where is this weakness more evident than in California where services such as technology and entertainment dominate the economy. A post industrial economy is delusional. So delusional that basic infrastructure is falling apart. The irony is that the Corporatist model also leads to the neglect by only focusing on what is profitable.

You can only have a strong service economy if you have a strong industrial economy.

I have never been as keen on the ideas first popularized by Reagan, such as a trickle down economy or service economy, as many people I know. The guiding hand belongs to the blind clock maker and I believe in freewill, agency and responsibility.

Culture is artificial in the same way as artificial intelligence. It is by design as opposed to the bottom up methods of the blind clock maker. I suspect that it is this failure to understand nature that leads the religious to embrace the invisible hand and fail to take the pandemic as seriously as others.

What I won't do is accept the restrictions on liberty the government has no right or more exactly the folly to impose. The Japanese have embraced rights during the pandemic and has done much better with the pandemic than the West. They understand from bitter experience that government imposed social order leads to destruction. The West has embraced a pseudo sophisticated view of determinism that has undermined freewill, agency and responsibility. The only way liberal democracy can work is if people are free to suffer the consequences of their bad decisions. It is why capitalism is an integral component of freedom. What the Reagonites got wrong is that Capitalism is not about capital but rather the free exchange of goods and services something impossible under the Corporatist model that the people around Reagan embraced. The extreme income inequality that corporatism leads to undermines the free exchange of goods and services and promotes dystopian globalism. Eventually you end up looking like Mexico with only two classes the rich and the poor and are open to revolution or as we see a cartel culture.

Here in Mt prices in the Big Box Stores and all corporate owned places the prices just keep going up and our governor has threatened only the small businesses to comply with HIS decisions and actually set up a place to turn people in. Starting to look like Nazi Germany around here. I hope he is voted out

I can't go anywhere without wearing a mask...
I should take up rioting - a least then the mask will have a purpose.
