I must have just woke up when I saw that article because your comments lead to read it again. I took the wrong outlook on that situation being described. But my comment about offending the socialists is still valid, just not to this particular situation as I had thought when I posted this.

@KCSantiago oh it wasn't a knock on you at all. I was just pointing out how the left loves to try to pull the heart strings in situations like this. "But she's a single mother, has a medical condition, and needs the money..." Then take your job seriously lol her personal situation really has nothing to do with the governor's supposed faux pas but of course they are sure to mention it anyways so that if you say something about her you're an evil person. Le sigh.

@Jrockintx83 Thank you, though I did not take it that way. But your comment did get me to open that back up and take another look at the article. I did misread that almost all the way through.

I have been talking with my kids, who both support this antifa and BLM madness trying to get them to understand the reality of that situation. For some reason I am not getting through at the moment. One thing I noticed with my youngest, who is in her mid 20s, it's all about "feelings", and because these people feel this or that way their looting, and arson etc are all justified. Then she tried defending it saying the companies aren't really hurt because they have insurance.
I tried pointing out the people who lived in that area were hurt, we were speaking specifically about Portland, Oregon, because they would now have to find time to take buses to do their shopping when before antifa it was right around the corner. The people who worked in the stores were truly hurt because they don't have insurance that will see them through losing their jobs, that will pay their rent and utility bills. Then I asked if she had any idea how many of those people were black folks that all this crap was supposed to be about helping. She got real quiet which means she is actually thinking hard about what I am saying. As heart breaking as it is to hear them parroting the words of the mindless socialist causing all this trouble I do have hope they will see the light. I hate to admit it these days but when I was their ages I was not much different in my thoughts.

@KCSantiago When I was their age I never gave politics a fleeting thought. There wasn't really that much to worry about. Elections didn't seem to matter much, everything hummed along as usual regardless of who was, in my case, Prime Minister. Pierre Trudeau was the first one I ever had any concerns about and I still think they were valid today. I thought Jimmy Carter was a little bit too socialist as well. Things went back to being fairly normal after they left, until oh say... the end of the Clinton administration. It sounds like you are doing alright with your kids.. at least there is some dialogue occurring.

I have only one point that may be useful to you and you can work around. It relates to MLK's point about judging an individual upon the content of one's character. It is important not to judge before one knows the content of one's character. Judging a person by a preconceived notion is not judging at all. The point where liking humanity, in general, and disliking humanity in general is the divide. You either have some admiration for humanity or you don't. Ideas that there are too many people on the planet, that people are responsible for depleting resources, decimating natural ecosystems, causing the extinction of some species, polluting the environment, and similar charges, have one thing in common - they disparage humanity and invite a person to dislike their fellow man.
The flip side of that is that humanity has built a civilization where larger and larger portions of populations are lifted out of poverty and abundance is created by us all working together. We build amazing cities and structures. We harness power to use in order to moderate our environment and not be subject to the elements. We cooperate to improve our lives and are helpful and charitable toward each other. We've grown to understand each other and tried to eliminate racism and inequality in our communities and societies with civil rights laws.
It boils down to one's perception of whether man is good or evil, whether he is willingly destructive or constructive, trustworthy or untrustworthy, honourable or dishonourable, responsible or irresponsible. Look at it from both sides and see what side you are on.
I've laid out the basic concept here and I hope the point gets across. It's at least something worthwhile to ruminate on I hope. Good luck!
