Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.In Australia, anything with a sharpened edge or blade can be classed as a weapon by the police, unless you have some sort of legal excuse (like it's for work and you're traveling between work and home, or you have just purchased it and are on the way home). I have had a friend charged with 'possession of prohibited weapon' for having scissors in his van! I have also been threatened by a policeman with the same charge for having a camping axe in the car (he started grilling me on where, when, how often etc, then said that because I wasn't on the way to or on the way back from a campsite he could charge me - upto his discretion).
That's Australia though, we're just a large open air prison colony. I believe the UK's reasoning is to combat the escalation in knife crime. It won't work. The offenders will just use a different weapon. Target the crime and the offenders committing them, rather than the tool being used. This is like banning cars to stop car theft.
