I've said this elsewhere, so I apologize for repeating myself, but I think that there is no place for a weapon like the Ruger AR-556. Hear me out.
First, let me preface this by saying I'm cool with you owning pretty much whatever you want to own, up to and including NFA Class III firearms; I have no problem with that. Own a tank for all I care.
But the Ruger AR-556 is not a firearm as much as it is a dangerous gimmick designed to circumvent the NFA rules regarding SBR and I put it in the same category as bump stocks. Both are designed to do little more than throw lead downrange with little actual practicality or accuracy, so that you can pretend to be Special Ops while wasting your money burning through ammunition.
And if you're on your own property, hey, that's your business. But if I'm in the lane next to you, now it's my business. If you're using something that - by design - you cannot properly control, then we have a problem.
The firearm community needs a 5.56 pistol platform the same way we needed Saturday night specials. You have to draw the line somewhere.
